One of our leading clients is looking for a Signalling Design manager to support regional multi-disciplinary design consultancy offices as well as grow the signalling design capability they are now seeking Design Managers / CREs for our Glasgow, for York, for Birmingham and Cardiff offices.

This is a global management, engineering, and development consultancy with a $2billion business spanning 140 countries with over 16,500 staff in sectors such as transport, energy, buildings, water and the environment, health and education and industry and communications.

You will be required to support the Head of Signalling in the management of the signalling design group activities through the implementation of an effective management system within your team organisation. Ensure the development and execution of clear lines of communication, whilst maximising the effectiveness associated with best use of standard design processes and procedures.

You will provide technical guidance to the design teams and interface with Project Management, Engineering, Commercial, Health, Safety & Wellbeing and HR organisations to ensure processes and procedures are maximised across the various teams.

In this role you will act as an interface between the Design Team Leaders ensuring consistency in the application of best practice and ensuring that issues are dealt with in a consistent way across the teams. Ensure a proactive approach to resource management, talent management, staff development and succession planning to meet the requirements for the ongoing development of the signalling discipline whilst supporting and driving its future within the business.

Responsibilities will be on a project by project basis and the management of signal engineering input into:
Acting as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE)
Feasibility Studies/Option Analysis/Appraisal;
Scheme development; Detailed Design;
Design checking; Project Management;
Technical adviser; Project Engineering;
In collaboration with other discipline colleagues carry out business development as required.
Contribution to the engineering input to multi-disciplinary railway engineering (design and consultancy) projects.

Candidate Specification

We will need you to have most of the experience listed below:
IRSE 1.1.160 Signalling Design Verifier;
IRSE 1.1.150 Signalling Principles and/or
IRSE 1.1.145 Signalling Design Manager/IRSE 7.8.110E Engineering Manager (Design)
Ideally an electrical engineering degree or alternatively, a suitable rail industry recognised qualification.
Extensive experience in signalling design and engineering management within a consultancy environment.
Ability to plan and produce compliant signalling schemes with minimum supervision.
Knowledge of signalling principles, circuits, components and the implications of working with other disciplines.
Must be a proficient organiser, team facilitator and decision maker
Customer focused with commercial and financial awareness.
