Signalling Design Manager

Key Responsibilities of thie Signalling Design Manager role:
- Project and Quality Delivery/Staff Development
- Manage all signalling activities undertaken by their team, in accordance with client and governance requirements for signalling and associated projects
- Review and lead the delivery of signalling projects to deliver to defined timescales
- Bid preparation to support/lead tendering of new works
- Mentor junior members of the signalling discipline
- Maintain knowledge of current practices, processes, standards and emerging technologies in relation to the signalling discipline
- Familiarity with multiple interlocking types such as RRI, E10k, mechanical, SSI etc.
- Knowledge of railway systems and related operating practices, along with their key interactions with other railway assets
- Lead the production of, review and approve for construction of signalling designs and documentation at a consistent and acceptable level of quality
- Partake in lessons learned reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
- Ensure that the technical and engineering management processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are followed
- Present complex technical solutions to client
- Participate in development of technical proposals
- Ensure that all skills and technical competence supporting documentation is kept up to date for self and team, e.g. IRSE licence, IRSE log book, Authority to Work, Company CV, mandatory training etc.
- Manage the resources within the team, liaising with other team leads, Professional Head of Discipline and project management as appropriate
- Work closely with the Professional Head of Discipline and Regional Director to support them with all appropriate tasksHealth, Safety and Environmental
- Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and of anyone else who could be affected by own acts or omissions
- Correctly using the work items provided, including personal protective equipment in accordance with training and instruction
- Giving full co-operation in all matters relating to health and safety
- Observing the requirements of the Group Health and Safety Policy
- Promote health and safety best practice to Discipline teams though regular team briefs
- Ensure that procedures and systems are in place so that all projects are undertaken in a safe manner and project designs are compliant with health and safety legislation.
- Taking an active part in monthly HSQE meetings through sharing relevant health & safety information with others and identifying and prioritising HSQE issues that affect rail and the wider business
- Reporting on unforeseen risks that may emerge during the course of their work using the appropriate systems
- Identify and manage risks throughout the design process and project lifecycle
- Ensure all of their team understands their responsibilities relating to health & safety and that the policy statement and guiding principles are communicated and understoodGrowth and Management
- Ensure that a plan for Training and Development for their team is in place and monitored
- Ensure that appropriate levels of mentorship and guidance are being provided
- Provide management reports as required

Experience required for the Signalling Design Manager role:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for the Signalling Design Manager role:
- Holder of 1.1.550 Signalling Principles Designer, 7.8.110E Engineering Manager (Design) or 7.8.220E Senior Engineering Manager (Design) licence, and/or registered with professional engineering institution (IRSE, IET etc.) at IEng or CEng.
- Experience of acting as Signalling Design CRE
- Experience of leading the delivery of signalling design as part of multi-disciplinary rail systems projects
- Experience of managing a team's resources
- Commitment to professional development and retaining the highest standard of signalling design technical skills
- The ability to be able to work in a number of differing consultancy environments and situations across the project lifecycle
- Understanding and experience of working within project budgets whilst maintaining the delivery of high-quality outputs
- Commitment to delivery to internal and external clients, with the view towards timeliness, reliability, safety and accuracy of completed tasks
- Experienced in the use of all MS Office packages
