Electrical Systems Engineer
TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a rapidly expanding innovative rolling stock manufacturer. A challenging position has risen for an Electrical Engineer who has sound knowledge and experience of power, traction and braking systems as applicable to railway rolling stock.
THE POSITION
The key duties for the Electrical Systems Engineer are:
- Capture the requirements and specify/design the electrical systems that satisfy customer and business demands as well as industry standards.
- This ranges from the top-level architecture (block diagrams and schematics) to the detailed component level.
- It may involve working with third parties to capture, agree and document technical requirement specifications.
- This also includes designing or specifying the relevant component, sub-system or vehicle test procedures.
- Cascade this information to the Electrical Designers who will carry out the detailed draughting, BOM and component sourcing work.
- Act as design authority, and single point of contact, for the systems allocated to your care.
- Undertake the concept design of electrical and pneumatic schematics. Assist and guide the Electrical Designers to ensure that equipment thus selected including cabling, relays, switches etc, meets the necessary BS, EN and railway standards.
- Undertake Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) for the systems allocated to your care.
- Lead safety and reliability investigations, report outcomes and recommend solutions
- Support the wider engineering and production team to resolve any issues arising from electrical systems.
- Support in configuration and commissioning of electrical systems.
- Validate and sign-off the work of others where this is within the bounds of your professional competence.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this role you will be an electrical engineering graduate and a chartered engineer (IET or former IEE) or actively working towards it.
Essential;
- Experience of specifying, designing and working with high and low-voltage electrical equipment, in particular 3-phase drives and motors, DC-to-DC converters, rectifiers / inverters, and IGBTs.
- Sound knowledge and experience of power, traction and braking systems as applicable to railway rolling stock.
- Ability to analyse energy flows and the implications for power, current, voltage and component sizing etc.
- Ability to determine the control logic required for a given system and translate this into new electrical schematics.
- Ability to ‘reverse engineer’ an existing electrical schematic and analyse the logic.
- Ability to write Technical Requirement Specifications, Mod Instructions, Test Specifications and Test Procedures.
Desirable;
- Experience of electrical and electronic systems in a railway environment.
- Experience of electro-pneumatic systems would be an advantage.
- Thorough working knowledge of Railway Group Standards and railway practice in general.
- Practical ‘hands-on’ experience.
- Project engineering / project management experience.
THE PACKAGE
- 40 hours per week Monday to Friday- You may be expected to work additional hours depending on business requirements.
