Title: Mechanical / Electrical Engineer – Rolling Stock Programme Lift
Purpose:
To provide technical leadership and support the technical delivery of mechanical / system engineering and maintenance projects and ensure the achievement of the agreed targets of quality, safety, cost and time. To manage the demand for technical engineering input to LU Ops Engineering, external clients and other LU Directorates in support of the 09TS Programme Lift. To ensure that changes are designed and implemented to be safe, fit for purpose and compliant with legislation and relevant standards. May lead and manage a specific group to deliver the above.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide technical direction and leadership in the delivery of engineering support and services.
- Manage allocated resources to deliver the work programmes.
- Plan and control of own work and/or reporting Engineers to meet project and technical requirements.
- Ensure current standards and good practice is applied within own discipline.
- Work closely with other Engineers to ensure proper coordination to achieve overall system integrity.
- Provide input to Contracts and Contractors within area of expertise to ensure that the development, delivery and execution of contracts meet London Underground’s requirements.
- Produce technical reports, specifications, maintenance and overhaul documentation as required.
- Assess tender submissions for technical merit and support general procurement activities
- Advise and comment on technical proposals to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, standards and contract documents
- Work with suppliers to ensure designs are fit for purpose and have been demonstrated by testing as required
- Undertake investigations/inspections and equipment condition assessments and provide professional reports giving conclusions, root causes, recommendations for action.
- Ensure tasks/projects are delivered within time, cost and quality constraints.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
KNOWLEDGE
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- The candidate should be / or working towards Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
- In depth knowledge of relevant engineering principles and standards and their application.
- Have experience with equipment or assets overhaul projects
- Knowledge of Rolling Stock Assets or equipment.
- Knowledge of people management processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of inter-dependencies between relevant assets.
- 2009 Tube Stock knowledge is desirable but not essential
SKILL
- Ability to multi-task.
- Applies and develops knowledge and technical expertise.
- Ability to manage diverse resources (people and assets) to deliver multi-disciplinary tasks/projects.
EXPERIENCE
- Considerable experience in railway or similar operationally complex and safety conscious environment.
- Experience of Rolling Stock or equipment overhaul
- Wide experience in failure investigations and fault finding.
- Proven record of successful delivery of tasks/projects.
- Proven record in implementing cost effective design solutions and contributing to their evaluation
