We currently need an experienced Bridge Engineer, with an active interest in the inspection and assessment of rail and highway bridges. The work would suit an individual who can demonstrate high level of technical ability at an Engineer Level. Your background knowledge of different types of bridges, which can vary from a small simply supported bridge deck up to very complicated multi-span viaducts is essential.
We are looking for skills including assessment of bridge decks, bridge beams or girders. You will need to show an understanding of how a bridge deck functions under vehicle loading and use various programs to model bridge decks and analyse them. You will be able to understand and analyse simply supported bridge decks, continuous multi-span bridge decks, U-Frame Bridges, Z-type bridge decks and various other types of bridge deck. Experience in the inspection and identification of structural defects is also essential.
Our Glasgow office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over 50 years, mainly in Scotland but also throughout the UK and overseas. The bridges team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our clients are from the private and public sectors and our work includes long-term Framework Agreements with Network Rail and numerous Scottish Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors.

As a Bridge Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:

Undertake rail and road bridge engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.

Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
-
Assist with preparation of technical documentation
-
Hands-on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
-
Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
-
Structural inspections and reporting.
-
Client liaison.
-
Assist with production of tenders, including quality documentation and costings.
-
Assist with Project Management, including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Minimum Requirements
Your experience should include a combination of the following skills and knowledge:

Experience with bridge and related structural inspection, assessment and design schemes.

Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit .

Working knowledge of structural analysis software - Lusas or SBD preferred.

Experience in the design of concrete, metallic, timber and masonry structures.
-
Design and assessment experience delivering high quality, to time and budget.
-
Experience in road and rail bridge projects.
-
Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
-
High-level technical skills in inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist teams of graduates and technicians in such projects.

Understanding of project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.

MSc level or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
-
Graduate Member with ICE or IStructE and proven commitment to gaining Chartership.
