Train Data S/W Configuration ETCS Systems Engineer
This role is for an ETCS Systems Engineer, capable of fulfilling the Train Data S/W configuration of the ETCS OBU System. The ETCS Systems Engineer will play an important role in Customer Requirements Management, management of the technical design, the definition of the System and Sub-system Design, Train Data capture, ETCS configuration data.
The ETCS Systems Engineer role will also provide support to the management of the technical interfaces between the Siemens ETCS system, the Train Design Authority and the internal and external Design Teams ensuring that the technical solutions meet the operational and performance requirements.
The jobholder will be capable of maintaining strong communication links with Global R&D, the Project Delivery Teams, the Train Design Authority, the Siemens design team, fitment and approval partners and the client. They will be capable of adapting their deliverables based on the needs of these stakeholders.
Success in the role will be measured primarily by the on-time delivery of allocated deliverables meeting quality targets as agreed with the ETCS Systems Engineering Manager. The ETCS Systems Engineer will be expected to plan their own work within their overall agreed targets.
This role will help play a major part in delivering the ETCS on-board systems necessary as the business demands.
The ETCS Systems Engineer role will report to the ETCS Integration Manager. The ETCS Systems Engineer role will support the technical work streams for all ETCS on-board projects.
What are my responsibilities?
Responsibilities for software configuration support role:
- Develop ETCS software configurations according to SIL 4 process
- Work alongside client to develop vehicle specific data configurations according to generic product application rules
- Develop databases used to configure train communication network for transmission of data between MVB connected devices
- Generate and manage encryption keys used to encrypt track-train GSM-R communication
- Generate process description and work instruction documentation related to SW development and installation tasks
- Write configuration files for the configuration of ETCS test and simulation environment, used for the system integration and testing
- Integrate externally supplied software packages into the System of Interest environment
- Support design team with SW configuration related queries
- Support integration and system testing
- Plan SW configuration activities, within the wider context of project activities, and report progress to project leadership
- Generate and review system requirements related to SW configuration
- Manage changes and defects resulting from verification and design review activities
- Configuration management of SW baselines and related configuration items
- Map compliance and traceability evidence between SW configuration activities and requirements specifications
- Conduct commissioning and site installation of ETCS SW onto trainbourne equipment.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline (essential)
- Proven track record and experience of working within the rail sector (essential)
- Experience of working with embedded systems (essential)
- Knowledge of networking protocols, such as VPN, DHCP, FTP & SSH (essential)
- Knowledge of the systems engineering life-cycle processes, such as requirements management and specification development (essential)
- Experience of generating systems integration and verification plans (preferred)
- Experience of working with EN 50128 processes (essential)
- Experience of configuration management systems such as Git, SAP or related systems (essential)
- Knowledge of ETCS principles and specifications (preferred)
- Computer science and programming experience, such as Ruby, Pearl & C++ (preferred)
- Experience of developing tools for process automation, e.g., excel macros or python scripting (preferred)
- Experience of working in a software/systems production environment (preferred)
