Engineer (OLE)
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Engineer (OLE) to join our Rail team to work in Prescot. The purpose of the role is to produce OLE feasibility, scheme and detailed design to an existing design engineering function. The projects include a range of overhead line projects.
- To act safely and work to eliminate hazards at source
- Provide deliverables and a service that satisfies safety and quality requirements
- Produce calculations, drawings and supply the associated service
- Direct junior personnel as required
- Contribute to the production of investigations, reports and specifications
What you'll be doing
As an Engineer (OLE), you will:
- Operate in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards.
- Ensure project change is fully implemented and recorded.
- Undertake work using formal processes and procedures.
- Manage and record time and provide time estimates for tasks.
- Undertake the NR/L2/INI/02009 role of OLE Contractors responsible Engineer (CRE) or equivalent.
- Deliver packages to programme and budget.
- Ensure accurate packages with minimum rework.
- Carry out successful audits.
- Ensure packages consider safety through design, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning.
- Undertake site surveys/site visits.
- Manage independent checking of safety critical design documentation, where applicable.
- Manage the engineering interfaces of allocated proposals with concurrent work in other disciplines, or within other programmes.
- Liaise with the appropriate Project Engineer so that method statements for site works are produced and accepted to the required standards.
Who we're looking for?
Personal Qualities & Experience
Essential:
- HNC with substantial experience or Engineering Graduate.
- Awareness of construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge of Group standards/HSE legislation.
- Knowledge of MicroStation 2D/3D.
- Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices.
- Experienced at producing design calculations, drawings and reports in the project delivery environment for the OLE discipline.
- Experienced at operating to Standards, procedures and design office practices.
- Experienced to undertake unsupervised site visits to collect necessary data or to provide GRIP 6 design support for OLE construction.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Network Rail Company Standards.
- Knowledge of National and International Standards.
- Working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation in a 3D environment.
- Appreciation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its application to
projects.
- Knowledge of Form A/ B, GRIP Stage 3 to 7 work stages.
- Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging engineering practices; participating in professional development; reading industry publications; maintaining personal networks.
- Delivery focused.
- Strong and effective communicator across peer group within the company and
customers.
- Proactive and able to use initiative.
- Proactive in digital innovation.
- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver packages.
- Specialist within an engineering environment.
- Able to take ownership of small projects or elements of larger projects.
