KiwiRail operates and maintains New Zealand's national railway. It's an exciting time for us with the surge of investment in New Zealand rail, and we are building high performing teams to meet our Customers’ needs.

Our Operations Engineering Team are responsible for delivering engineering professional services to support the renewal, upgrade and ongoing maintenance of our 4,000km of national rail infrastructure – including Track, formation and earthworks, Drainage and River/Coastal Protection, Bridges, Tunnels, Overhead power and Substations, Signals, Communications and Control System and Level Crossing assets.

We also influence and support delivery of some of New Zealand’s largest and most exciting infrastructure projects such as City Rail Link, Auckland Metro Rail Network Programme, Interislander Ferry Replacement Project, Wellington Metro Rail Network Programme and the North Line Replacement Project.

Many of our roles provide a mixture of office and field work, with some national travel included.

With continued government investment in Rail, we are growing our teams and actively looking for experienced Engineers, Designers, Delivery Leads, Principals, and Professional Heads, Technical Directors, Programme Directors with experience in any of the following Infrastructure Engineering areas:

  • Track and Formation
  • Rail Signalling
  • Control Systems (Networking, SCADA, ATS, Rail Telecommunications)
  • Rail Design Management
  • Systems Engineering
  • Mechanical (rail vehicles)

A number of the roles are senior leadership roles which offer the ability to shape our infrastructure now and into the future. Including the general capabilities listed above we are looking to fill two roles. These are:

  • Technical Director providing multi-disciplinary rail leadership and direction to the team managing the Principles & Standards and Compliance, Asset Management, Asset/Design Approvals, Technical Advice.
  • Professional Head Signals providing leadership and direction to all of our Signals activities.
  • Electrical Sector Manager leading out Signals, Telecommunications, Control Systems and Traction and Electrical engineering discipline teams.
