What will I be doing?

As an Engineering Supervisor you will be responsible for the health & safety of all workers signed onto their ES brief and ensuring RSSI is represented to the highest standard. The role requires all safety concerns to be addressed immediately, as appropriate, and ensuring that the PICOP and SSOW pack is accepted one shift in advance. The ES is responsible for ensuring that the worksite is set up safely and any safety critical staff are fully briefed regarding all aspects detailed within it. In all instances, it is the Engineering Supervisors responsibility to sign in and out with the PICOP either in person or over the telephone, and ensure that all of your work group sign the ES brief. Engineering Supervisors have responsibility for ensuring that safety tours are regularly carried out, workers read, understand & sign NWR safety briefs as well as carrying out and recording safety conversations as and when required. The recording of close calls on the RSSI app (plus CARL if on a Colas site) is essential in the performance of Engineering Supervisor duties to ensure safety of workers. The Engineering Supervisor is required to lead from the front in performing their duties and mentoring new operatives. To ensure that health and safety of all workers signed onto ES Briefing.

  1. Lead from the front in performing all duties and mentor new operatives.
  2. To ensure that works undertaken by individuals within your work site are carried out safely to remove risk of injury.
  3. To ensure that the worksite is set up correctly and safely, as per the PICOP briefing and marker boards in place correctly.
  4. Where appropriate manage and mentor any Provision Engineering Supervisors or ES Assistants.
  5. To ensure you represent RSSI to the highest standard in all aspects including customer service, management of your work site and communication with RSSI clients.
  6. To ensure that all works are completed to the highest levels of quality and issues relating to the completion of work escalated to the client supervisor and RSSI Rail Manager.
  7. Attend whiteboard meetings/ PICOP meetings as and when required
  8. Work midweek days/nights and weekends when the business requires it.
  9. Review all your paperwork at least one shift in advance.
  10. Sign in and out with PICOP in person or via telephone .
  11. Fully brief all safety critical staff on all aspects of the ES brief ensuring they sign to say they understand the briefing.
  12. To ensure all RSSI workers have read and understood safety briefings and sign these via the RSSI App.
  13. To conduct a minimum of 2 safety tours per calendar month and ensure these are returned to the RSSI Rail Manager.
  14. To record all close calls on RSSI app (plus CARL if on a Colas site).
  15. To challenge, highlight and report ALL unsafe working practices.
  16. To ensure that all non-attendance is reported to the RSSI Resource Team or Out of Hours service.
  17. To ensure that all staff are in full PPE including face masks and goggles when signing in at Site Access and working on your worksite.
  18. To respond to all instructions and queries from RSSI clients and Rail Managers in a calm and professional manner.

What experience would we like you to have?

We are looking for qualified and competent Engineering Supervisors with a minimum of 12 months previous experience. A full driving licence is essential.
