The Opportunity
As part of a close-knit structure within the Engineering function, your role as a Fleet Engineer will combine your technical capability alongside your client development skills in ensuring a strong working relationship is maintained with one of the busiest train operators in the Midlands.
You will be the main liaison point on engineering and fleet engineering matters, working closely with internal teams in the business to ensure relationships are handled professionally and successfully.
With a clear focus on quality you will be joining a company that welcomes capable individuals who can hit the ground running and integrate quickly and efficiently into a ready-made team. With big expansions plans in place and the acceptance of new fleets into operational service, your role will be varied and fluid from developing and implementing fleet improvements, enhancing the long-term value as well as significant involvement in big modification projects.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Ensure vehicles are suitable for safe operation on the railway system, with due consideration to the company's lease obligations
- Review National Incident Reports identified as affecting applicable rolling stock and coordinate the implementation of remedial actions as necessary
- Manage and optimise maintenance specifications to ensure that no undue risk is imported on to the running railway to enhance Reliability and Maintainability.
- Monitor Operator responsible maintenance; ensure mandated activities are carried out in time and to the correct standard.
- Monitor quality of engineering activities at suppliers' and contractors' sites, ensuring that the requirements of both the company's and customers are met
- Support and monitor condition of the company rolling stock assets, provide condition reports to the Operator and inform the Fleet Asset Manager of any issues identified
- Actively lead reliability investigations and fleet performance enhancement workstreams to improve the reliability and future leasing opportunities.
- Development of business cases and implementation plans supporting any proposed vehicle modifications and services.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who has demonstrable engineering experience within the rail sector. It is essential that you can work autonomously and efficiently, developing strong relationships both internally and externally to achieve the consistent high standards the organisation is used to.
You will have a strong technical understanding of maintenance optimisation and can integrate within a busy functioning fleet team to achieve effective collaborative working.
Essentials
- Railway engineering knowledge, ideally possessing or working towards Chartered Status
- Degree, HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
- Knowledge of railway industry rolling stock, organisation and rail stakeholders
- Basic knowledge of contractual obligations and operating lease agreements
- Awareness of safety cases, certification issues, railway risks and group standards
- Ability to understand and comment upon engineering instructions and drawings
- Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance and overhaul requirements
