This role is positioned uniquely in the market for somebody from any civil engineering discipline involving Geotechnical works. The Opportunity

This is a chance for a Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer to join a successful team and play a key part in the ECI phase of Structures and Enhancements projects. No matter your level of experience, whether you’re a Graduate or a Senior engineer, you will be joining a division which will put you straight on a ladder of progression up to Principal engineer and beyond!

You can expect to see yourself working between both office and site, ensuring Ground Investigation packages are carried out efficiently on rail projects across the company’s portfolio in Scotland. Due to the nature of the rail industry, it is essential that you’ll be flexible to travel and lodge on occasion and work a mixture of nights, days, and weekends.

What is expected of me as Geotechnical Engineer?

• You will oversee Drilling works across sites, operated by specialist drillers who will collect soil and ground samples.
• You will schedule lab testing and use specialist software to complete visual analysis on what types of ground are based where. Then once results are back from the lab, you will use your expertise to provide a specification report to send to the client or stakeholder.
• You will log BS5 930 reports (i.e., 25% soil, 30% chalk etc)

Package

For this position, the company is offering a basic salary £28,000 to £40,000 per annum (dependant on experience and job role), the choice of a company car, van or car allowance (dependant on level), fantastic overtime rates, 26 days holiday + bank holidays with two optional charity days and the option to buy more holidays, funding and support with professional memberships, 4.5% matched pension rising to 7.5%, Life assurance and an Agile working policy.

About You

It is essential that you have a significant background in Geotechnical works, this could either be in the Rail industry, Highways, Oil and Gas, Water, or Generalist Environmental engineering. You can be any grade of engineer if you can show a proven track record working on GI works of projects within a contractor environment.

You must be flexible with hours and travel as you will be required to works some nights and weekends on the occasion, as well as lodging away on sites when they’re too far to commute.

You will be technically qualified with a degree in a relevant subject such as Environmental, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Geography, Earth Sciences etc.
