Main Purpose

Support the Senior and/or Principal Engineer as part of an engineering team engaged in the delivery of commissions undertaken within the Ground Engineering Account of Consulting. The entry point for the Engineer post is immediately upon achieving Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent with an individual working towards Chartership. The post requirements recognise this and demand a level of responsibility that assumes working under limited supervision of more senior colleagues.

Responsibilities

* Support the Senior and/or Principal Engineer and other team members by contributing under limited supervision to the production of technically sound engineering solutions

* Support the Senior and/or Principal Engineer and other team members by contributing under limited supervision to the management of projects and monitoring of project budgets

* Support the Senior and/or Principal Engineer and other team members by contributing under limited supervision to client and third party management

* Accompany more senior colleagues to meetings with the client and other project related organisations

* Support in the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts, when required

* Provide mentoring, support and guide less experienced team members

Role Specific Responsibilities

* Planning and execution of desk studies

* Planning, procurement and supervision of ground investigations

* Supervision of less experienced staff on site

* Preparation of feasibility studies and reports

* Checking of feasibility studies and reports undertaken by less experienced staff

* Analysis of geotechnical data, preparation of interpretative and design reports

* Assist Senior/Principal Engineers in checking of data analysis undertaken by others

* Undertake outline and detailed geotechnical design including foundations, slope stability and remediation designs, earthworks design and retaining walls

* Assist Senior/Principal Engineer in checking of designs undertaken by others

* Able to drive and supervise site works

* Project planning, programming, cost control and administration for small schemes

External

* Contribute to the development and maintenance of key client relationships for business benefit, including strategic suppliers and partners

Internal

* Accountable to the Senior and Principal Engineer, other senior team members and project managers as appropriate

* Maintain positive working relationships with training managers and supervisors within Consulting and the wider business

* Maintain peer relationships for mutual benefit e.g. professional development working groups

* Mentorship for less experienced team members


Role Specific Requirements

Qualifications

* A 2.1 degree in Civil Engineering or an Earth Sciences subject

* A post graduate qualification (MSc/MEng) in Soil Mechanics/Geotechnical Engineering

* Membership of an appropriate professional Institution at Graduate grade or equivalent

* Training under agreement, close to or working towards Chartership with an appropriate professional Institution

* Full UK driving licence

Skills

* Computer literacy and competence with MS office suite is essential

* Conversant with 3D Civils or CAD is desirable

* Sound understanding of and competence in the use of Geotechnical design software such as Slope/w and Wallap or equivalent

* Use of FE software such as MIDAS or Plaxis is desirable

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Excellent organisational skills and methodical approach to problem solving

Experience

* 5 years post graduate experience in Geotechnical design
