IT Systems Support Engineer in Ashby de la Zouch, GB-LND, United Kingdom

Specify, design, and upkeep of train maintenance related IT systems interfaces.  Training competency assessments including stores operation of IT systems.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Coordinate production support activities for systems and subsystems to ensure the integrity of computer generated data, in particular monitoring interface errors and directing each to the appropriate person for resolution:
  • Perform research and consulting on major aspects of effective and efficient computer operations and supporting technologies.
  • Manage user calls raised through the Rail Systems Service Desk from initial issue capture, through investigation, resolution and closure with the user.
  • Determine hardware problems and resolutions without impact to user processing.
  • Work with hardware vendors to resolve issues.
  • Perform and maintain automated operations procedures using appropriate software packages to improve department efficiency and quality.
  • Develop operations and maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Respond to problems of users, re-running or scheduling jobs, restoring files, resending reports, or resolving system issues.
  • The scope of the role covers all Rail Systems depots and all fleets

Interfaces

Full

  • Monitor, correct and report on any issues regarding the interfaces between the business applications and external systems.
  • Liaise with 3rd Party suppliers regarding updates to Interfaces. Gaining approvals and setting schedules for any necessary updates.

Application Support

Full

  • Data analysis and collation of all reported interface transaction failures and enhancement requests.
  • Liaising with 3rd Party suppliers to rectify any bugs or errors in a timely manner.
  • Manage user calls raised through the Rail Systems Service Desk from initial issue capture, through investigation, resolution and closure with the user.

Customer Relationships

Full

  • Liaise with the materials control team and the finance and commercial team to ensure data integrity between the maintenance systems and the corporate financial system.
  • Interface with users regarding all business IT requirements including any Corporate initiatives.

 Training and Assessing

Shared

  • Design and deliver training to users based on business processes and best practices used in the business.
  • Assist with the preparation and carrying out of Competency Assessments of staff in respect of the use of the Maintenance Management Systems and IT systems.

What do I need to qualify for the role?

Essential:

  • Engineering or IT qualification, e.g. HND, A+, Microsoft accredited.
  • Good general knowledge of IT systems.
  • Experience of responding to user help desk calls.
  • Proven experience of managing data interfaces between business critical IT systems.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Experience of an IT customer service delivery environment.
  • Experience of strong safety culture.

Preferred:

  • Ability to train end-users in the use of IT systems and equipment.
  • Experience of Rolling Stock maintenance environments.
  • Experience of liaising with third party IT system suppliers.
