OLE Engineer

Purpose of the Role

As the OLE Engineer, you will work in a technical and operational role with a distinct focus on the engineering and assurance side of our business, working closely with our experienced construction team including engineers and senior management on improving the UK rail system.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

  • Your main responsibility is to support the construction team by managing the assurance and handback documentation in preparation for the planned works for site and ensuring that all paperwork is in place in advance of the work and completed and correlated after the shift/ weekend.
  • Review the issued Form A design with Construction Manager and CRE to understand scope of the planned works and record/ make comment on any issues realised that need clarity/ further information to ensure that the full project scope can be delivered safely.
  • Review the issued Form B design with Construction Manager and CRE to understand scope of the planned works and record/ make comment on any issues realised that need clarity/ further information to ensure that the full project scope can be delivered safely.
  • Review the issued Form C/ AFC design with Construction Manager and CRE to understand scope of the planned works and record/ make comment on any issues realised that need clarity/ further information to ensure that the full project scope can be delivered safely.
  • Prepare any Technical Queries required with assistance from the OLE Tech/ Construction Manager and CRE for submission to the Design CRE/ PE for identified issues that need to be raised with design reviews to ensure all design/ construction anomalies are closed out before construction on site and for the health and safety file.
  • Attend various design meetings including project start-ups, IDCs, IDRs, DCIs and Risk workshops.
  • Will be responsible for ordering materials and managing the assurance of material upon delivery.
  • Demonstrate motivation to lead the OLE Tech through learning across multi functions/ equipment types to gain experience to support the projects you will work on.
  • Aid the OLE Technical Engineer/ Supervisor and/or Construction Manager on-site in ensuring the OLE works are undertaken in-line with the relevant standards and all parameters/ tolerances are achieved.
  • To contribute to the team and support across project(s) to gain and develop experience.
  • Be flexible and adaptable as OLE Engineer to meet the operational requirements including working on various sites.
  • Help to improve the overall team through continuous improvement ideas relating to assurance, tools, equipment, efficiencies and processes.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

Person Specification

Proven experience working as OLE Engineer on the following OLE equipment types: Series 1, Series 2, Mk1, Mk 3B, UK1 (Master Series) with minimum 4years working experience in a similar role.

Must be able to lead and assist by directing OLEC3 Linesmen carryout installation and registration work on site giving guidance on technical parameters during the works.

Must be familiar with the relevant construction standards to give accurate technical advice during construction.

Must be familiar with the use of EviFile for OLE Quality Assurance.

Enthusiastic.

Work independently and in a team.

A keen eye for detail and documenting construction activities for progressive assurance of OLE works.

Must be willing to work weekends and available to work over Bank Holidays as required.

Particular areas of responsibility (Linked to current role)

Lead with help from the OLE Tech managing the assurance documentation/ processes as below:

Prep Height and stagger forms utilising design information.

Carry out Height & Stagger surveys.

Clear photographic surveys of OLE structures.

Prepare and fill out Inspection Test Plans to ensure the OLE works are compliant.

Understand Rail Quality Assurance processes and implement accordingly to ensure compliance with standards.

Carryout random assurance checks of produced/ completed ROO Forms (Record of OLE Forms) and ensuring they are filled in onsite and in the fabrication depot to correctly document our works.

Understand and read OLE designs (Layout and cross-section drawings including allocation sheets)

Select, examine, and apply all technical standards to our works including Network Rail, and company Equipment specific standards.

Participate in planning for OLE works with Construction Manager/ Supervisor including understanding workplans, plant to be ordered, planning work into correct access.

Review OLE Bill of Quantities against allocated scope and design to ensuring.

Awareness of track safety, and ensuring works are carried out safely.
