Provide technical leadership for larger projects Undertake engineering activities and provide guidance to less experienced engineers on their projects. Find engineering solutions ensure conformance to the specification and compliant delivery to programme by guiding engineering suppliers to the job and advising the Senior Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Agree and implement a mentoring / development plan for less experienced engineers assigned for mentorship / development.
- Undertake the engineering activity on the allocated projects including support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions (design, install and test) over changes; and interfaces with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings).
- Advise the Construction/Works Manager on engineering requirement and specification issues, including marking out of sites and ensuring each stage of construction is acceptable and signed off before works progress
- Assist the Senior Project Engineer in developing his plan for the engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, and provide engineering review of the method statements and risk assessments proposed for the work.
- Attend record briefings of technical updates to the project team. Promote best practice.
- Ensure that materials are specified correctly, orders are placed to meet the project programme and that an up to date material schedule is maintained for the project.
- Assist with production and implementation of an in process inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements.
- Preparation of site documentation, including WPP’s, TB’s, programmes, Permit to Dig, rosters, and ALO plans
- Work on site in a railway environment
- Liaison with other disciplines and project organisations
- Placing orders and receiving deliveries of technical equipment
- Planning of site works
- Responsible for ensuring that all planned Safety Inspections tours are completed in accordance with the approved programme, and that identified actions are closed out in a timely manner as applicable.
- Participate in regular monthly safety meeting with Line Manager.
- Ensure that stipulated PPE is worn by all staff in compliance with mandated procedures and legislation.
- Identify specific training needs for yourself so as to ensure competency for allocated tasks.
- Ensure that mandatory training and competency certification for all staff are valid and copies available.
- Ensure Ground disturbance procedure is briefed; records kept and strictly adhered to.
- The role is one based in an office / site office environment. It is a requirement of the role to attend site on a regular basis (including night time).
Qualifications
• Must be able to drive.
• Satisfy requirements of PTS medical.
• PTS.
• HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar approved qualification.
• Conversant with company safety, procurement, and quality procedures.
Skills
• Computer literate for office systems and planning tools.
• Familiarity with ProjectWise, ProjectMapper, and TrackRecord systems
Experience
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Project experience (preferably 2 years) - “hands-on” site experience in a similar role
• Knowledge and site experience of using p-way survey kit (Trimble, Mephisto, and Amber trolley)
• Experience and knowledge of tamping practices
• Experience and knowledge of stressing
