Principal Bridge Engineer- Inspections
We are currently recruiting for a Principal Bridge Engineer with experience in bridge inspection, assessment and refurbishment schemes, to join our busy and expanding experienced Leeds Bridges team.
Our Leeds bridges team was founded around 20 years ago, providing worldwide long-span bridge consultancy services with a focus on the four large suspension bridges in the UK, namely Humber, Forth Road, Severn and Tamar bridges, for which we enjoy an excellent reputation. Recent years has shown rapid growth in the size of the team due largely to increased inspection and assessment rail infrastructure services and long-term maintenance services on the highway trunk road network. We are now looking to further expand the team primarily in relation to rail services.
The team primarily provides inspection, assessment and maintenance services with feasibility studies and occasional design also included. Our clients are from the private and public sector and current projects include a major UK 5 year rail network infrastructure framework assessment contract, a long-term framework agreement with a local council, ongoing maintenance projects with long span clients and technical assurance services on large highway projects.
As Principal Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:
Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.
Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
Hands-on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
Structural inspections and reporting.
Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.
Client liaison.
Assist with production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.
Assist with Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Our Current projects include:
-CAFA (Network Rail)
-Leeds City Council for the local council framework
-A63 Castle Street (Highways England) for the Technical Assurance role
Minimum Requirements :
We will require a combination of the following:
You will be chartered with ICE and IStructE and or have a proven commitment to gaining Chartership.
Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.
Working knowledge of AutoCad and Revit.
Working knowledge of structural analysis software - Lusas or SBD preferred.
Experience in the design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures.
Design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
Experience in road, rail and water bridge projects.
Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
High-level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist teams of graduates and technicians in such projects.
Understanding of project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
You will be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites.
Preferred Qualifications :
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.
