Principal Bridge Engineer in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Derbyshire, United Kingdom

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Bridge Engineer with experience in bridge design, inspection, assessment and refurbishment schemes, to join our busy and expanding experienced Chesterfield Bridges team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long-term Framework Agreements with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors.

Our Chesterfield office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over many years, in the Midlands and also throughout the UK and overseas.

As a Principal Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Undertake and project manage various engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design. This may cover rail and/or road bridges and associated structures

  • Take responsibility for the contribution of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate

  • Responsible for production through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation

  • Hands-on technical design for road and/or rail structures

  • Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures

  • Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written

  • Client liaison

  • Production of tenders including quality documentation and costings

  • Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery

  • Mentoring graduate engineers in their route to Chartership.

Minimum Requirements

  • Significant experience with bridge and related structural inspection, assessment, and design schemes. High-level technical skills in this area and the ability to lead teams of engineers in such projects

  • Proven design and project management experience delivering quality work within time and budget

  • Experience in road and/or rail projects.

  • Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors

  • Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation

  • A current driving license and willingness to travel throughout the UK to visit sites will be required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Chartered Engineer with ICE and IstructE
