Day-to-day, your focus will be on delivering designs, drawings, information, calculations and enhancements that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. You'll make sure assets are safe, working and compliant develop your own solutions and be a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
The Principal Systems Engineer will be accountable for the overall systems integration of a capital programme or subprogramme throughout its programme lifecycle, working with and possibly managing teams of project and discipline
engineers to ensure that scope is developed, designed and delivered to cost, schedule and meet it requirements. This is a truly multi-disciplinary role, capable of delivering both heavy infrastructure and complex integrated transport systems at all stages of the project lifecycle, liaising with multiple stakeholders and external parties. Chartered with a relevant Engineering Institution, the Principal Systems Engineer shall also demonstrate capabilities in planning, resourcing, cost and risk management as well as a strong technical and commercial acumen as he or she shall also be assisting in the development of the Systems Engineering Function for the pan organisation.
Purpose
Support the Systems Engineering Functional Lead in the development of the Systems Engineering Function for the pan organization and also provide technical support to any multi-disciplinary programme to ensure its scope is developed, designed and delivered to cost, schedule and meet it requirements and needs.
Knowledge
* Expert in systems engineering management
* Extensive domain knowledge of the relevant transport and/or infrastructure system including system delivery, operation and maintenance
* Extensive knowledge in specification and visualisation of complex systems and processes
* Knowledge of systems engineering sub-disciplines: system architecting and modelling, interface management and requirements/configuration management
* Knowledge of whole life asset management
* Good commercial awareness of developments in systems engineering management planning, best practices and system effectiveness
* Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within transportation

* Extensive experience of systems engineering and its practical application to high value programmes
* Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams, including system architecting, system modelling, interface management and requirements/configuration management
* Experience in planning and applying systems engineering activities on large transport, infrastructure enhancement programmes or complex projects
* Experience in applying systems engineering tools across a major programme and its supply-chain
Significant experience of working within management roles
