We have an opportunity for a Radiation Protection Engineer with a well known and highly commended Nuclear Client, this is a contract role for a total of 3 years work.
The purpose of this role is to assist in the development, management, implementation and review of the arrangements for radiological protection and/or radioactive substances management to ensure compliance with regulatory and Company requirements.
To be successful you must have the following qualification, experience and knowledge:
*Relevant experience in specialism related roles
*Experience at a nuclear site in own specialism
*Detailed knowledge of the Radioactive Substances Act/ Environmental Permitting Regulations.
*Detailed Knowledge of IRR and RSA compliance
*Accredited Health Physicist
*Educated to at least NQF level 5 / NVQ Level 5 (or equivalent in a post related subject).
*Member of a relevant professional institute
The responsibilities of this role include but not limited to:
*Ensure personal and professional development and training of radiological staff to deliver an effective and suitably qualified and experienced Function.
*Monitor performance and take action or provide advice as necessary to maintain radiological standards and improve performance.
*Identify good practice in performance at sites and externally, and promote and deploy across the Functions/Sites.
*Provide expert-level advice, support and guidance on radiological protection issues throughout the Site.
*Comply with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety Environment and Quality on Site.
*Provide detailed technical radiological advice to support site, projects and programmes work. The advice to include the production of written documentation including departmental documents, technical reports, radiological risk assessments, health physics certificates, designated work documentation, dose estimates and ALARP reports. These documents to be approved in accordance with site procedures if outside of the authorisation of the individual.
*Provide advice to Senior Authorised Persons (NR) on radiological protection requirements as appropriate.
*Reviewing and approve written work instructions for all work carried out within the controlled area boundary and other areas of the site if appropriate. The review and approval of work order cards or similar work control documents produced by the site's planning system.
*Support the implementation of new radiological protection practices and procedures and the commissioning and introduction of new equipment and instruments as specified by the Radiological Protection Engineer A.
*Undertake radiological inspections and audits to ensure the effective implementation of the site radiological protection programme, including at points of work.
*Advise on the selection, issue, storage and maintenance of PPE including respiratory protection equipment used on site for radiological protection as appropriate.
