Reliability Engineer

Reporting to: Passenger Train – Maintenance Manager

Division / Function: Rolling Stock Department

Base location: KSA

Key purpose

The purpose of the role is to provide professional engineering support to the passenger rolling stock maintenance department, ensuring that the rolling stock is maintained and operated in a safe working condition at all times.

1. Ensure that SAR and the maintenance contractor have processes to monitor and manage maintenance, ensuring compliance with all maintenance procedures and standards.

2. Drive the continuous improvement of the technical performance and safety of the rolling stock.

Key accountabilities

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure all maintenance manuals and associated documents are compliant with relevant standard, up to date, legible, concise, and easy to interoperate and at all times provide the necessary information required to maintain the fleet.
  • Oversee and review all safety related events that occur to the rolling stock and ensure that the appropriate immediate action is taken to maintain safe operation.
  • Setup and monitor suitable reports and KPIs with the maintenance contractor for all performance objectives, and provide a regular update of modifications and special checks.
  • Analyze rolling stock performance data and make recommendations to improve reliability, quality and safety performance.
  • Initiate and sign-off technical modifications and engineering changes, in support of the relevant documentation and approvals processes.
  • Prepare and submit investment papers, in conjunction with other departments, to support performance improvements required for the fleet in terms of life cycle cost reduction, improved technical and safety performance.
  • Manage the warranty process, including: recording of materials, analyse trends, liaison with production and suppliers, and continuous improvement programme (including suppliers).
  • Liaise with maintenance and engineering departments, and maintenance contractor to provide technical support during problem resolution.
  • Assist the engineering teams of other departments to implement projects and initiatives.
  • Participate fully in all training courses and briefings relating the maintenance of trains, operation of equipment.
  • Undertake the audits to ensure maintenance and activities are carried out in compliance with the SAR and maintenance contractors Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety procedures and trains are fit for service.
  • Work closely and support all employees of SAR to ensure that the highest standards of safe working are constantly attained. Including reporting procedures for near misses, accidents and security concerns.
  • Support continuous improvement processes, including suggestions, input into new procedures and work instructions by other departments.
  • To assist shifts and work at various locations as required
  • Required to undertake on-call.
  • Undertake task as required by manager.

HSQE Responsibilities and Information Security Responsibilities

• Comply with all operational rules, procedures, regulations and instructions;

• Understanding of personal responsibilities and contribution to achieving compliance with safety management systems, support and ensure team are compliant with requirements;

• Understand the importance of being in possession of, all relevant personal protection equipment/clothing, company ID, safety documentation and information when on duty;

• To exercise a personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by the acts or omissions and promote the same within their area of responsibility;

• To use safety equipment (including PPE) as required and intended and observe that this is also enforced within Operations and among subcontractors and third parties working in SAR’s controlled premises/systems;

• Reporting of near misses, accidents and safety or security concerns;

• Lead by example and seek out ways to conserve energy, water and other resources and minimise the generation of waste;

• Ensure all team members are aware and comply with HSQE responsibilities.

• Understanding of personal responsibilities and contribution to achieving compliance with safety management systems, support and ensure contractor are compliant with requirements;

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• Recognized mechanical or electrical diploma at a trade / craft level or above;

EXPERIENCE

• 2 years relevant engineering experience;

• 5 years relevant maintenance experience including fault finding and technical improvements;

• Experience and knowledge of engineering and rolling stock standards and requirements to ensure

compliance;

• Previous Passenger rolling stock experience.
