Section Engineer – Formwork & Reinforcement

ROLE PURPOSE

To assist the Site Agent and Sub Agent in the building of Complex reinforcement and Formwork Erection Works :

  • Manage all safety issues on site
  • Act as the Emergency Persons in Charge for the shift
  • Supervise the shift works
  • Working on an 10hr shift pattern 7,3,7,4 (Days, Backs, Nights).

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Demonstrate and lead the shift in commitment to safe working
  • Manage the programme on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that materials plant and equipment are orders in and managed
  • Planning and programming of the works
  • To be expertly fully familiar with formwork and reinforcement placement in complex shapes sufficient to undertake the role of Section Engineer and Fill The Sub Agent Role when He/ She is on holiday.
  • Weekly working rota of 10-hour shift pattern 7,3,7,4
  • Supervision of the main works and the Site Engineers
  • Alignment control on Formwork
  • Management of the sequencing with the Site Agent
  • Preparation / review of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Maintain good working relations with client / designer, together with our supply chain.
  • Attend the relevant meetings daily as directed by the Site Agent
  • Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
  • Communicate with Pit Boss and Lead Miners to ensure full understanding of information provided such as RESS and Shift Briefing, POWRA.
  • Arrange formal checking of setting out and ensure check request form is completed.
  • Ensure Site Engineer completes inspection and test plans as required by the Project Management Plan/Specification, including checks of dimension accuracy and quality.
  • Provide accurate measurements for materials required for site. Maintain material reconciliation figures for reporting in the weekly site review meeting.
  • Liaise with Pit Boss and temporary works designers to determine optimum temporary works solutions
  • Ensure meticulous as built records are checks and completed contemporaneously.

Engineering/Planning

  • Understands key milestones and priorities
  • Work to the deadlines required by the programme
  • Ability to produce realistic short term section programmes based on actual outputs.
  • Ability to understand and enable the Contract programme.
  • Knowledge of how basic resources and outputs fit in on Contract programme.
  • Knowledge of resource and outputs on site and an ability to keep records of production outputs.
  • Ability to navigate and find working documents on the company intranet / Business Collaborator.
  • Ability to use software to produce sketches, update drawings or produce as-built 3D models/drawings.
  • Ability to verify dimensions and coordinates against 3D models/drawings, to ensure setting out is correct on site

Client/Communication:

  • Act in the best interests of the Project in all dealings with the client, suppliers, workforce and public.

Commercial:

  • Recording of bulk supply materials
  • Daily diary record
  • Daily quality records
  • Have full understanding of procedures governing how we manage risk
  • Understand the effect of risk on the programme and financial outcome of the project.
  • Be aware that risks are shared under the contract and which ones are relevant to your particular element of your project.
  • Read procedures and guidance and receive explanation/discussion from Site Agent / Project Manager/OS.
  • Ensure that any outstanding snagging/defect correction work is notified to your line manager.
  • Monitor material use and reconcile against original budgets (provided by others.)

PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Must be degree qualified or have relevant professional experience in Civil Engineering (or, similar) and have, or is studying towards a professional qualification (MICE, FGS). Must hold a valid CSCS card.

These roles require individuals with strong up to date technical knowledge of tunnelling and industry best practice in all aspects. They will be a technically proficient with a good understanding in other areas in the engineering field and have the professional credibility to engage and inspire others.

Good working knowledge/understanding of BIM is required. The individual will have an understanding of the principles of framework procurement and experience within the most current forms of procurement. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with team members under time pressure.

The individual should have a desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the business.

Experience and knowledge:

  • Full experience of Concrete Reinforcement works – 5 year’s experience (preferable)
  • Experience of shift work
  • Ability to manage engineers and operatives.
  • Experience of maintaining good relations with designer and client.
  • Government legislation and Company policy on all matters relating to safety and environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction procedures and working methods.
  • Able to support learning & institution recognition for others as delegated engineer.
  • Ability to contribute to the design, development, construction, commissioning or maintenance of civil engineering products, equipment, processes, systems or services.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and methods for testing site materials, understanding the requirements of any laboratory, and have the ability to perform the role of testing engineer.
  • Understand specified tolerances for work activities in progress.
  • Complete detailed checklists for each work activity, if required.
  • Ability to interpret drawings correctly and check for error.
