Job Title - Senior Engineer
Location - Milton Keynes
Rates - £400 - £450 per day
In Scope of IR35 - (i.e. subject to tax & national insurance contributions taken at source by Capita as the primary agency)
About the role / project:
In an exclusively office based role the Senior Engineer's focus will be to aid in the updating of a Network Rail standard which serves to implement Safe System of Work (SSOW) on a 25kV A.C. Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE) system.
The role is a short term contract vacancy until April 2018, with the specific project having a tentative completion date of the end of March, 2018, ready for trials of the new process from late March onwards.
Activities and requirements include:
Provide expert advice input and support associated with the provision of services for our customers and suppliers.
Support professional leadership for a designated engineering discipline.
Support the setting of policy and standards, operational processes and systems. Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability required within Network Rail, including the competence framework and effective training materials.
Provide the technical input to the development of the standards, specifications, means of compliance and KPIs for Asset Management, including system risks. Support engineering analysis and risk assessment, including assessment of applications for derogations and non-compliance.
Support the development of strategy, technology and assets across functions and with industry partners. Liaise with product manufacturers, including external stakeholder e.g. TOC and provide input into the acceptance processes.
Proactively research and respond to changes in the internal and external requirements and practice which impact upon policy and standards.
Identify opportunities for technical and business process improvement and innovation, developing business cases and Investment Papers where required.

Your experience will include:
Network Rail is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer who can provide technical engineering input, support and advice into the development of this Network Rail standard. Experience in railway, OHLE and/or in the development of safety cases and safety engineering in asset intensive environments is crucial to the role.
As such, your relevant experience will include:
Essential
Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience (Level 6)
Membership of a relevant technical body
Broad technical engineering experience
Project or financial planning and management experience
Desirable
Management or supervisory experience
Chartered status
Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP)
Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual and financial issues
Knowledge of the railway industry and a understanding of railway infrastructure
