We provide specialist engineering services including intrusive and non-intrusive structural investigations to bridges, walls, tunnels and culverts, 3D scanning of civil assets both above and below water, structural inspections and health monitoring, asset management consultancy, asbestos surveys, and much more!
Our Tiverton based team are currently delivering a number of major projects across the UK for Utilities and Defence clients, and the appointment of a Chartered Civil/Structures Engineer is required in order to support the development of technical engineering services and to assure the technical quality of engineering inspection and investigation reports.. Whilst they will be primarily concerned with the Utilities and Defence sector, their role will also be to support other sectors including Marine, Rail and Highways.
Reporting to the Head of the Utilities and Defence Sector, the Senior Structures Engineer will be responsible for quality compliance, report review, development and implementation of technical capabilities including 3D Point Cloud Scanning (above and below water), Concrete Testing, Structural Inspections, and survey tasks. They will be expected to support with competency management and advising on technical aspects of tendering activity.
A safety-first approach to operational delivery is critical with a focus on delivering the highest quality of service to our clients ensuring that projects are delivered aligned to our client’s objectives and goals. Managing multiple stakeholders throughout the journey will be essential to delivering on this ambition.
A background in Infrastructure Asset Management (Bridges/Tunnels/Ports etc)is essential with knowledge of specialist access (rope access, diving, confined space working) being advantageous. Experience of working in Rail, Highways, Defence or Marine sectors is preferable although experience working in other comparable asset management areas would be considered.

Main Purpose
To be the Engineering Quality and Compliance Lead on Utilities and Defence projects as well as assisting in other areas (Rail & Highways) throughout the business, providing technical advice to a growing operational team.
Where required, to carry out occasional site surveys/audits to ensure best practice and that all site operations are undertaken safely, in accordance with client requirements and to the highest quality.
Lead on the technical development of engineering processes for Structural Inspections and Investigations including the introduction of new technology and innovation.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

- Chartered Member of the ICE or IStructE (or similar)
- Level 6 qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar)
- 5+ years asset management and technical experience
- Working knowledge of Structural Inspections, Intrusive and Non-Intrusive Structural Investigations, and Technical Surveys including PTSI
- Team Leadership experience
- Managing projects in high-risk environments preferred
- Strong people/team skills and client liaison experience
- Effective communicator with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders
