Due to significant contract wins and the expansion of our core team, we have a number of vacancies for Structures Engineers to work across the Eastern Region with our current team. This vital role involves verifying and interpreting examinations and inspections of railway assets including bridges, viaducts and retaining walls, ensuring that they are safe and in good condition for Network Rail’s passengers and freight, and making recommendations for future maintenance activities.
There will be additional opportunities to help to mentor and develop our existing and growing examinations team and shape the way that our activities are carried out in the future.
We are looking for Structures Engineers with a minimum of 4 years’ experience with rail assets, or experienced railway infrastructure examiners who are able to transition into the Network Rail STE2 competency within a short duration. Training and assessment will be provided, and the successful candidate will have the following attributes:
• Ideally from either a railway Civil Engineering background or an experienced STE4 Examiner looking for the next step in their career.
• A working knowledge of examination and inspection techniques, production of high-quality reports and identification of defects and remedial actions.
• Familiarisation with Network Rail technical standards.
• The ability to make engineering decisions based on the condition and likely deterioration rate of a given structure, taking into account environmental and causal factors.
• The willingness to be held responsible for their recommendations.
• Evidence of training and mentoring staff in technical aspects of an engineering role.
• Ideally having experience in masonry, metallic, concrete and timber structures.
• Having experience with bridges, retaining walls, culverts, viaducts, and ancillary assets.
• Clear communication and the ability to distil technical information into easily understandable language.
