Systems Expert Metro & Tram
The Systems Expert will support the Service Delivery Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Department in investigating, analysing, and resolving safety and maintenance-related issues across metro and tram systems. This includes conducting root cause analyses, ensuring compliance with contractual performance and reliability targets, and implementing maintenance improvements.
The role also involves leading design modifications, securing regulatory approvals for system changes, and managing enhancement projects to optimise rail system performance while ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
Additionally, the position supports maintenance strategy development and execution to align asset performance with this clients Strategic Asset Management Plan and Policy.
Key Responsibilities
System Integration and Maintenance
Lead investigations into failures across rolling stock, signaling, communications, PSD, SCADA, and power systems for metro and tram projects.
Apply engineering principles to resolve technical challenges and enhance system performance.
Identify strategies to maximise system safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability while reducing disruptions.
Develop and implement maintenance strategies, Asset Maintenance Plans, and Planning Tables to extend asset service life and improve operational efficiency.
Project Management and Engineering
Oversee multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget, ensuring effective collaboration across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
Lead planning, design reviews, and implementation of rail systems, ensuring integration with other subsystems.
Manage enhancement projects for existing metro and tram lines, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
Technical Oversight and Innovation
-Provide technical expertise on modern rail technologies, including CBTC and advanced control systems.
-Prepare detailed reports on project progress, technical findings, and system performance analyses.
-Promote the adoption of best practices in risk assessment, hazard analysis, and system safety management.
Key Interfaces
Internal: Senior management, PDD Projects, Procurement, Legal, Contracts and Commercial, PDD TID, consultants, and contractor management teams.
External: Service providers, maintenance contractors, Ministry of Interior (MOI), Ministry of Transport (MOT), and other relevant stakeholders.
Desired Profile
Education
-Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Membership in a relevant professional engineering association is desirable.
Experience
-10+ years in the rail industry, with a focus on metro and tram systems.
-Proven expertise in systems engineering, project management, and integration within complex rail projects.
-Experience in system maintenance, design, and construction for metro and tram operations.
-Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards, industry regulations, and rail-specific technologies such as signaling and communication systems.
Professional Training
Proficiency in Maintenance Management Systems and depot operations.
In-depth understanding of rail system components like driverless trains, signaling systems, power supply, track, communication systems, ventilation systems, and E&M systems.
