Systems Integration Engineer (Rolling Stock Design)
In this exciting role you will be responsible for the following activities:
- Train system design through concept design, preliminary design, detailed design and final design stages engaging the supply chain and delivering output aligned with project engineering KPIs
- Ensure that train system functionality is optimised and integrated by having expert system knowledge at both system and train level and be capable of delivering comprehensive system specifications with which to engage the supply chain
- Manage small and medium sized system engineering projects of high complexity through from supply chain, design to implementation. Confirm and agree technical specifications and requirements. Carefully manage the interface requirements between the factory and sub-suppliers, evaluating technical and commercial risk.
- Validation of the train design by ensuring that the QA and test and commissioning activities are aligned with the design concept. Provide the necessary feedback into relevant departments.
- Ensuring that design and system information is correct and aligned with the expected deliverables of the team to enable effective interdepartmental information flow (e.g. Maintenance, Procurement, QHSE, Training, Testing, etc)
- Provide support and validation to the RAMS activities
- Initiate and implement design optimisations to improve safety, reliability and encourage the introduction of innovations into the product base
- Provide support to the production of technical bid submissions
Essential Requirements
- An excellent knowledge of modern rolling stock design, construction, functionality and the interactions of the train systems
- Some experience of system design
- Ability to read schematics (electrical, pneumatic and mechanical) and assess potential failure modes and design improvements.
- RAMS process knowledge, particularly FMEA.
- Ability to produce technical reports.
- Experience of building good working relationships across all stakeholders
Qualifications
- Minimum HNC in an Engineering discipline
Desirable
- Knowledge of DOORS or similar Requirements Management software advantageous
- CAD experience e.g. Solid Works / Auto CAD / Creo (Creo preferred)
- Membership of a relevant professional institution. Ideally CEng or working towards.
