The Role
Test engineer to help with the Ellipse asset management system. They are going through system integration testing and acceptance testing phases. Undertake the signalling testing and commissioning activities for allocated schemes. Monitor the compliance of testing and commissioning activities with the relevant legislation, railway group and company standards and verify whether signalling systems can be safely accepted into use.
Accountabilities
- Undertake the establishment of the staging, possession and temporary works arrangements required for allocated testing and commissioning activities.
- Review the appointment of the tester in charge and carry out sample verification of competence of signalling and commissioning engineers working on projects.
- Undertake the review and acceptance of testing and commissioning plans and testing strategies.
- Undertake testing and commissioning of allocated schemes in accordance with technical competencies held. Prepare associated test strategies, plans and work package plans.
- Undertake inspections of signalling testing and commissioning activities carried out by contractors.
- Accept signalling systems into use, or delegate acceptance to an appropriate testing and commissioning engineer.
- Review, and where authorised approve, deferral of test logs. Progress the closure of test logs with appropriate action plans.
- Provide technical guidance to project and programme managers in respect of testing and commissioning activities.
- Provide independent testing and commissioning guidance and support to investigations and inquiries. Participate in investigations of incidents relating to testing and commissioning where required.
- Carry out the development of testing and commissioning techniques leading to a reduction in on site testing.
- Participate in verification activities as directed in support of the national programme.
About You
Essential
- Academic qualifications leading to Incorporated Engineer qualification
- Hold an appropriate IRSE licence or capable of achieving within 1 year.
- Knowledge of signalling equipment, systems and processes
- A working knowledge of Signalling Design and Testing and Commissioning procedures and standards
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and best practice
- Good written and oral skills
Desirable
- Member of IRSE
- Formal qualification in principles testing and/or testing management
- Hold A1 Assessor qualification, or capable of achieving within one year
- Previous Experience in a related role
