The Rail Engineering Projects Testing and Commissioning Team is an exciting and growing team, eager to grasp modern systems, processes and concepts, within the regulatory framework that we are required to work.

We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join us and lead the testing management of major and complex projects.

You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and to use initiative whilst working within a highly regulated environment.

Reporting to the Southern Testing and Commissioning Engineer, the work is mainly site based on projects and as such there may be a requirement to lodge away for extended periods of time and to work unsocial hours. You must hold a full UK driving Licence.

Requirements

  • Experience in Railway Signalling Testing/Commissioning of simple size Projects
  • NWR simple Works TIC certification, and Tester In Charge and Functional Tester IRSE Licence
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook
  • Appreciation and awareness of principles and systems testing requirements
  • A1 IRSE assessor for all Testing Categories except Principles and Systems Testing (desirable)
  • Substantial Railway Signalling experience especially in management of signalling testing
  • Good knowledge of Railway Group NWR company standards requirements
  • Good personnel management and communication skills
  • Able to work under pressure during intense periods of commissioning etc
  • Current Driving Licence
  • Able to deputise for the Senior Testing Engineer
  • Willing to work flexibly and efficiently in support of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling systems for simple Works Testing of Signalling projects.
  • Testing of Signalling projects.
  • Undertake testing duties within the scope of Certificate of Competency held.
  • Represent Atkins at Client meetings.
  • Undertake Work Package Management responsibilities on Projects.
  • Identify resource requirements for your projects and competent staff are utilised, ensuring they are briefed regarding their work and responsibilities and that any necessary documentation is completed
  • Cascade management briefings as required.
  • Deputise for the Senior Testing Engineer.
  • Upward briefing of project testing status to STE/T&CE and Project team as required.
  • Ensure Audits and surveillances are undertaken in accordance with the Project Quality plan.
  • Ensure adherence to the Atkins rail standards, procedures, processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative and project requirements.
  • Co-operate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute where appropriate to Atkins rail commitment for continual improvement.
  • Manage testing and commissioning of signalling equipment to meet contract specifications, performance and safety parameters.
  • Manage effective utilisation and allocation of project-based testing resources both internal and subcontracted.
  • Prepare and check bids for accuracy and price for the testing portion of signalling projects
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, procedures, innovations and initiatives.
  • Encourage and promote the advancement of staff as a route to self-development
  • Co-operate with performance appraisals, attend training courses, maintain IRSE logbook to an acceptable standard
  • Progress individual knowledge and skills to promote advancement.
