As Environment Manager your main key responsibilities would be to:
- Leading and monitoring RS's environmental strategy, business objectives and performance measures to enable the function to meet its responsibilities for management of key environmental impacts.
- The candidate will lead the development, implementation, review and maintenance of processes to meet legal and business requirements and promote the Network RAIL sustainability strategy on behalf of the function.
- They will be responsible for managing the budget on relevant environmental contracts and meeting the RS environmental department business financial objectives and will lead on the input into the annual RS environmental budget to enable environmental legal compliance to be met and continual improvement to be delivered.
- The candidate will analyse environmental and business risks and developing and implementing an appropriate functional Environmental Management System (EMS) that delivers added value and efficiency, while providing risk analysis during change programmes.
- They will manage the development and implementation of assurance arrangements to measure compliance with the EMS, legal and other requirements and lead on integrating environmental and sustainability factors into the procurement and contracting process within the function
You’ll have the following essential experience, skills and qualifications and they must be demonstrated on your C.V:
- Practitioner member of IEMA (working towards Full membership) or equivalent professional institute e.g. CIEEM (or equivalent through experience).
- Educated to degree level (minimum UK level 6) in environment / sustainability or other relevant subject (or equivalent through experience).
- Managing sustainability risks & opportunities in large and complex organisation.
- Demonstrable in depth understanding of environmental / sustainability legislation
- Experience in the successful delivery of environmental performance improvement in highly complex or high hazard organisations.
- Experience of implementing and/or maintaining an environmental management system (e.g. ISO or equivalent)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a specific emphasis on influencing the views of peers, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Proven sound knowledge of incident investigation and shared learning processes (organisational learning and systems thinking)
It is desirable but not essential that you also have the following criteria/ qualifications:
- Masters level qualification in relevant subject
- Full member of IEMA or equivalent professional institute e.g. CIEEM.
- Auditor qualification (e.g., ISO 14001 Lead Auditor)
- CEEQUAL/BREEAM Assessor qualification
- NEBOSH general certificate
- Experience in Environmental Permitting (preferably in the Waste Sector), Sustainable
- Infrastructure Design and/or Sustainable Procurement.
- Demonstrable team leadership skills
- Experience in Supply Chain Management
