Reporting to the Financial Controller, the objectives of the role are to

  • ensure accurate monthly reporting by coordinating the month end close process
  • provide insight and challenge on our numbers, with a focus on overheads and cash
  • provide guidance and support on technical accounting topics
  • lead on ad hoc initiatives and proactively suggest areas for improvement
  • be the prime point of contact with services outsourced to the wider group e.g. Accounts Payable, Tax, and the headquarters accounting team
  • ensure the smooth operation of accounts payable processes

The role has 4 direct reports, plus a further 5 indirect reports within the Accounts Payable Workflow team. The direct reports are a qualified Financial accountant, two assistant accountants and the AP Workflow team leader.

The team also provides the finance business partnering to the Technology, Supply Chain, Engineering, Safety and Training departments to help them understand their numbers and ensure we have reliable forecasts.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Manage & develop Financial Accounting team (x 3)
  • Manage & develop Accounts Payable Workflow team (x 6)
  • Provide insight and commentary to the senior management team for reports prepared by your team
  • Detailed understanding of our balance sheet positions and managing the balance sheet reviews process across the business
  • Ensure good Purchase to Pay processes and governance
  • Review of aged creditors and aged debtors’ balances
  • Monthly payments forecasting
  • Monthly net cash forecasting by business segment
  • Ensure smooth running of monthly processes within the Financial Reporting team
  • Cost Centre forecasting and budgeting for Executive and Finance areas
  • Operating and reviewing a defined set of internal controls
  • Ensure Business Unit segmental reporting is correct
  • Provide support to and cover for the Financial Controller
  • Ad-hoc financial modelling to answer specific business questions
  • Seek to continually develop and improve processes
  • Other ad hoc tasks and projects as required

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • Experience of managing individuals and teams
  • Able to successfully communicate across all levels and functions in the business
  • Excellent Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup functions, data analysis)
  • Able to work to tight timescales and using their own initiative
  • Experience of using SAP or similar ERP software
