Assistant Project Manager in Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom

Main Purpose

Accountable for successfully securing and delivering a programme of projects to meet annual budgetary targets for turnover and margin. Reports to the Senior / Principal PM. Provides leadership within their project programme and act as the main point of contact for your client. Develops and maintains strong relationships with customers. Full technical delivery and profit and loss responsibility for your projects.

Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • What will this role involve:
  • Manage design teams in the development of design solutions
  • Undertake contact administration
  • Development of project documentation, programmes, master budget etc
  • Maintain a robust document management system
  • Produce reports to suit relevant stages of the projects
  • Comply with Amey governance
  • Deliver projects with the framework of risk, sustainability and environmental considerations agreed at the business case/client brief stage, while maintaining focus on time, cost and quality.
  • Monitor and report on progress against the contract programme
  • Manage consultant teams to ensure that the contractor’s design is carried out in compliance with the contract

What We are Looking for?

  • You will have experience of taking a leading role in delivery of medium to large Rail Design / Infrastructure projects,.
  • Excellent project delivery skills
  • Flexibility to travel around the UK as required by project commitments.
  • Sound knowledge and insight of the GRIP process, technical matters, such as the different procurement routes and contract forms
  • Demonstrate experience of stakeholder influence and management
  • Experience of managing the financial aspects of a project
  • Technical understanding of project elements, pre-contract and post contract matters.
  • Professional qualification of appropriate level
  • Ability to lead/work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to articulate current issues specific to the market
  • High quality oral and written communications (reports, instructions etc.)

Role Specific Responsibilities?

  • Oversee the successful commercial and technical delivery from your dedicated design team. Engage with clients in building strong relationships. Grow the business and promote Ameys capabilities

Professional Profile

Qualifications;

  • Related Professional qualification
  • An Engineering qualification and experience in both design and construction environments (desirable)
  • Prince 2 accredited (desirable)
  • Member of the Association of Project Management (desirable)

Skills:

  • Computer literate and thoroughly conversant with MS Office suite and project management software (i.e. MS Project, Primavera etc.)
  • Risk and/or Value Management training
  • Understand SAP, and its use to set up projects, periodic reporting processes, etc.

Experience:

  • Successful delivery of a number of large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects with experience in either Engineering or Project Management within a consultancy environment
  • Proven experience in managing the integration of a Programme of work
  • Commercially astute, with a good working knowledge of contracts
  • Experience in managing P&L
  • Previous sector experience and knowledge of sector standards (e.g. Rail) (desirable)
  • Successful delivery of a Major Project or Programme of work in a similar environment. (desirable)
