AutoCAD Senior Technician (Bridge Assessments) in Newcastle, Northumberland, United Kingdom
Our Newcastle Bridges and Structures team currently has a vacancy for a Senior Technician with experience of working on bridges and structures projects. AECOM are currently expanding their Bridges team in Newcastle following a major project win and require additional technician resources with proven skill in the use of AutoCAD.
You will initially be based within the CAFA team helping with the Inspection and Assessment of Network Rail structural assets in England and Scotland, but will also help with other major structural projects if required.
You will be an experienced AutoCAD user and an experienced detailer in all the modern and historic materials gained on a variety of bridge and infrastructure projects. You will have a proven level of experience of delivering to the client’s satisfaction. You will be expected to make yourself regularly available for structural inspections sometimes which would include working occasional nightshifts on railway infrastructure.
You will have strong development skills with the ability to manage and supervise the work of less experienced staff, as required. You will also have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and to teach others. You would be part of the Newcastle Bridges team numbering over 90 staff. The team works closely with other disciplines from the Rail, Roads, Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Building Divisions.

Job Responsibilities:
-
Production of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.

Assisting with site inspections on CAFA and other schemes to collect dimensional and condition information.

Preparation of bridge general arrangement and defect drawings for metallic, concrete and masonry structures.

Working with point cloud surveys and conversion to 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.

Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards

Contributing to the provision of solutions to civil engineering problems

Minimum Requirements
-
HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications
-
ICE Eng Tech qualified or working towards qualification
-
Strong maths and communication skills.
-
Strong experience in the production of structures or details drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.

Extensive experience in the supervision and instruction of less experienced technician staff.

Experience of resource planning.
Preferred Qualifications

Use of EDM / Total Station / Level
-
Use of drone survey point clouds
-
Experience in projects for Network Rail or working in Rail Environment

Good hand sketching (engineering / architectural)

Knowledge of historic railway infrastructure and materials would be an advantage
