Following THALES’ successful partnership with London Underground (LUL), modernising London’s underground signalling infrastructure on the Jubilee and Northern upgrade project (JNUP), we have secured the £760million 4 Lines Modernisation Programme (4LM).
THALES is delivering an Automatic Train Control (ATC) system for four of London Underground’s Sub Surface Rail (SSR) lines: District, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City. The programme has a five year duration and is a comprehensive solution including management, design, development, manufacturing, supply, delivery, construction, installation, integration, testing, commissioning and migration.
This is a full time, permanent position based in our offices in West Ferry Circus, Canary Wharf. The Deputy System Tester in Charge works within the System Integration and Test Group as direct delegate to one of the group’s Testers in Charge. The Deputy System TIC is responsible for supporting the TIC in overseeing the formal testing and competency of the System Integration and Test group and supports the management of the day to day activities of IRSE and CMS direct reports
Duties & Responsibilities

Receive handed over equipment from install via Installation Release Notes or other documents.

Support the management of the night test team (VCC testers, Lead Testers, etc.), including Daily Progress Reports, DTR etc.

Support the preparation of all test plans, CQPs, etc. for the team he manages and support reviews/signs off selected other test documents for other teams as needed.

Interfaces to other TiCs and departments as needed for joint testing activities.

Interfaces as needed to commissioning team.

Oversee competency management for the System’s group.

Oversee test records and the Test Department Management database to ensure test records are kept up to date and correct processes and procedures are followed.

Ensuring test teams have adequate resources, tools, and measurement devices to effectively do their jobs.

Ensure rigorous compliance to test processes and procedures, dealing with issues quickly and effectively.

Ensures the system test database (TDM) is maintained and populated in a timely manner.

Provides test and mitigation reports in preparation for Commissioning activities.

Establish and maintain effective communications with appropriate customer and client personnel to the benefit of the project.

Complete testing in accordance with the agreed programme.

Manage activities within the team’s budget and alert System Test Manager when issues arise, supporting ROM quotations for CEs and PMIs

Deputise fully for TIC when they are not available for work (annual leave, sickness etc..)

Support the TIC in conducting appraisals and setting objectives for team members
The main challenges of the role are:

Identify and implement pragmatic test strategies.

Make effective and efficient use of the limited access to the railway and the available resources during engineering hours and closures

Build and maintain an effective and well qualified test team ensuring all appropriate competencies and licenses are up to date

Ensure safe working during test sessions on a live railway.

Follow up and close out safety incidents quickly and effectively.

Ensure compliance with the key regulatory and LU working practices.

Adhere to the agreed programme, raising issues quickly and providing effective mitigations as practicable.
Required Skills
-
Excellent communication and written skills. Ability to communicate complex technical issues to all levels of management, technical staff, and the customer

Technical knowledge of Seltrac and moving block ATC systems (Desirable)
Experience:
-
Extensive experience of Testing & Commissioning in an LU environment.

Significant experience in an engineering environment.

Test management

Test team management

Test plan production and review experience.

Strong safety critical background, including dealing with safety incidents.

Dynamic Testing in an LU environment, including transitioning modes between tripcock and TBTC areas (desirable)
