Electrical Associate - MEP in London, United Kingdom

Our client, a global engineering business, now has an opening in their team for a Rail Electrical Associate (MEP) to lead teams delivering electrical building services designs for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings across the UK.

Candidates wanting to be based in Birmingham will also be considered.

Principal responsibilities:

  • Design of electrical systems within stations and other buildings in the Railway environment.
  • Design of station earthing and bonding requirements in the presence of 25kV OLE systems.
  • Design of earthing systems for low voltage systems.
  • Design of low voltage reticulation and distribution systems (230/400Volt) including UPS sources and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Operation of Amtech software to produce design for low voltage systems including a selection of cable types, protective devices and self-checking and presentation of results and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Design of general lighting systems and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Design of emergency lighting systems
  • Checking designs produced by others
  • Completion of Designers Risk Assessments.
  • Presentation of designs on schematic and 2D layout drawings.
  • Managing the interface of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design with the wider team.

Key skills/experience required:

  • Experience of supervising, managing and developing technical staff and the delivery of MEP design services to budget while managing trade-offs between technical and socio-economic factors.
  • Excellent working knowledge of BS7671, BS5266 and BS1838.
  • A good understanding of BSRIA BG06 Design Framework for Building Services; managing the delivery of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design at Feasibility, Concept and Detailed Design Stages;
  • A data driven mindset with a good understanding of BIM and the benefits it provides.
  • Experience of being accepted as nominated CRE by Network Rail for Electrical and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design up to GRIP 5.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of Network Rail and London Underground standards applicable for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings.
  • Working Knowledge of Fire Alarm systems, Building Regulations requirements and other industry standards related to Building Services (i.e BREEAM, Electricity, Safety Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQCR) etc).

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or qualifications and experience satisfying the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) at C.Eng level or other equivalent qualifications acceptable under the Professional Qualifications Directive.
  • Qualification in the requirements of BS7671 (e.g. City & Guilds Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382).
