Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Rail
Location:
Doncaster with Hybrid working
Salary / Benefits:
£60,000 - £68,000 per annum, negotiable dependant on experience plus package including:
- Car / Car allowance

Company Information:
An established and experienced principal railway infrastructure contractor is looking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their expanding In-house Design Team to further support the business in undertaking design across several long term Frameworks that they have secured with Network Rail.
To be suitable for the position you must have;
- A strong background working within E&P Design in a railway environment in a senior level role.
- Experience working on Rail Sector Projects including Electrical and Power, Energy, Lighting, Electrical Engineering, Signalling power supply, Power supply systems, Project Engineering, LV HV Engineering etc
- - A working knowledge of relevant British standards/ BS7671 / 18th Edition wiring regulations/Railway Group standards/Network Rail standards
- A professional qualification in a relevant discipline such as Electrical Engineering: HNC, HND, Degree etc
- Working knowledge of Railway interfaces and practices.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
- Experience of 650 volt signalling installation design.
- Proficiency in report and specification writing, calculations, AutoCAD and/or Microstation and developing designs from first principles.
Although not essential it would also be advantageous if you have;
- A full working knowledge of Microstation/Hevacomp/Amtech/DIALux and all relevant software packages
Experience working as a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE)
Role Information;
Reporting to the Rail Electrification & Plant Team Lead, you will act as a lead design engineer, rive the delivery of Railway E&P projects to meet our clients' greatest challenges whilst ensuring technical excellence and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer, Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all various types of Electrical & Plant design
- Conceptual outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.
- Design, checking and approval of power distribution, Internal and External Lighting schemes, Points Heating Systems, Conductor Rail Systems and associated components
- Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
- Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances.
- Production and approval of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
- Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents.
- Share responsibility for developing graduates and engineers in the E&P team through professional qualification with the relevant bodies and act as a mentor where necessary.
