Programme Engineer - Rail
Location – London
£350 - £400/day
You will need:
Essential:
- Engineering or appropriate science degree or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge in the field of systems engineering.
- Ability to gain full corporate membership of relevant professional Institution (i.e. IET) within the next three years.
- Broad knowledge of electronic and computer-based systems as applied to relevant industrial sectors.
- Clear written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context and with key external stakeholders.
- Methodical approach to problem solving/fault finding
Desirable:
- Experience and understanding of railway operations.
- Knowledge of testing complex systems.
- Experience of testing/validating ETCS/ATO systems.
- Knowledge of railway Signalling and control systems, including ATP and ATO.
The Role:
- The Thameslink Programme is now at an advanced stage in the detailed design and construction of KO2, leading to the rebuilding of London Bridge Station and resignalling of the London Bridge control area to support the introduction of the 24tph timetable
- The High Capacity Infrastructure (HCI) Project is delivering a key element of these works through the introduction of train control systems that will enable this timetable to be achieved. This programme is delivering ATO and ETCS, Traffic Management and enhancements to the GSM-R infrastructure.
- An Engineering team has been established to deliver these works with our supply chain and an opportunity for a Programme Engineer (Systems) has become available. The Programme Engineer will have the opportunity to work on the delivery of some of the most exciting and challenging control systems ever deployed by Network Rail, joining a team of experienced lead engineers. There will also be the opportunity for further professional development and learning in the fields of ETCS, Automatic Train Operation, Traffic Management and radio systems.
- The role will involve night and weekend work associated with the integration testing of the ETCS and ATO systems.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the Senior Programme Engineers with the integration testing and validation of the Thameslink ETCS and ATO Systems.
- To support the Senior Programme Engineers in the development and maintenance of an effective Verification and Validation process for HCI Projects.
- Record, analyse and document the testing undertaken by the Thameslink HCI Team.
- Undertake test campaigns in the Thameslink SI Lab to prove system functionality before testing on site.
- Undertake test campaigns with the Class 700 in the ‘Core’ area to demonstrate correct system operation.
- Assist in the co-ordination of relevant testing and integration activities between the Thameslink Programme and relevant stakeholders.
- Assist the Senior Programme Engineers in compiling deliverable documents and other evidence to achieve the necessary certification and stakeholder buy-in to the system
