Quality Engineer
A Quality Engineer is required to work for a large rail based engineering company in Preston on a 6 month contract. They are looking for someone to start in January and you will be required to work 37 hours per week in this role. The hourly rate for the role is negotiable dependent upon previous experience and will be through a limited or umbrella company.
Role purpose
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the product quality system; the goods receipt processes and the supporting SAP and IT systems. The Quality Engineer will apply, revise and maintain the quality standards for all related processes to deliver the associated product and configuration audit programmes. Assist in the development, maintenance and improvement of the quality department databases and associated KPIs. Support the day to day activities of the product quality audit team and be the key focus on improvement via NCR's, QRQC, 8D investigations and quality improvement projects both at Preston and within the supply chain.
Key responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who will be a key member of the Quality Assurance team. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on all quality functions to drive product and process improvement in support of the company journey to world class manufacturing.
This will include using such tools as:
* ISO9001
* 8D and QRQC
* Six Sigma and SPC
* Sampling to Mil/BS standards
* Lean Manufacturing and 5S Workplace Organisation
* Lifecycle Management and the DFQ process
* Precision measurement equipment (CMM, Shadow graphs etc.)
* APAQ to Drive Quality into all aspect of the planning processes
It will also include the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and evaluation of components/assemblies to ensure compliance of product to engineering drawings.
Promotion of quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organisation. Ensuring policies and procedures are being complied with, information is accurately maintained and compliant with contractual requirements.
Monitoring and analysing performance by gathering relevant data from product/build process audits and producing statistical reports and capability studies. Writing inspection reports to demonstrate performance and drive improvements where necessary/appropriate.
Implement and maintains the organisation's quality inspection and product release plan for incoming, in-process controls, assembly processes and finished goods. Participate with companywide audits as required.
Ensuring product testing and appropriate checking is maintained to provide product of consistent standard in line with quality requirements. Perform product acceptance checks in support of product dispatch to maintain delivered product performance.
Undertake root cause investigation on faulty production and supplied items. Recommend and implement approved improvement programs. Perform product
strip down and configuration audits when required, Liaise with Client Services regarding diagnoses of customer returns processes and assist in using findings to drive improvements..
Identifying relevant quality-related training needs and delivering training where appropriate to the role. Acting as mentor to other members of staff where appropriate.
Assisting in ensuring calibration activities are delivered within the organisation.
Key skills / experience
* Demonstrated experience in Quality Engineering and the deployment of APQP in a project engineer and production environment.
* Goods Inwards management, Inspection of components and assemblies (Mechanical & Electrical) in a fast moving manufacturing environment capturing results and delivering improvement programs.
* Experience in a low volume high mix, high quality manufacturing environment preferred
* Good understanding of relevant standards/best practice including standard Quality Tools such as SPC or be willing to gain relevant experience in these areas.
* It is essential that the applicant has strong interpersonal skills and is able to work as part of a multi-disciplined group.
* Delivery of local improvement projects.
Technical competencies
* Ideally educated to HNC level in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Quality or with commensurate Professional Experience.
* Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP
* Experience of working in an environment where relevant standards/best practice standards associated with Quality Management, ISO 9001:2008 or equivalent, are used.
* Management of the Supplier NCR process and improvement programs
* Experience of inspecting using CMM, shadowgraphs and other measurement equipment would be an advantage
