Locations: Two or Three days per week based in Newport, Wales and the rest of the week based in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

TRS are qualified to manage client project from start to finish, supplying all the Plant, labour and support services needed to achieve a successful outcome for rail projects (no matter how big or how small) be it time, specification, budget.
Due to continued expansion, Total Rail Solutions are looking to appoint a quantity surveyor who has previous experience of working on rail or London underground infrastructure projects.
The role and responsibilities
As the leading quantity surveyor you will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and other key members of the senior management team in delivering Total Rail Solutions’ civils rail projects ensuring best value to both TRS and our clients.
Initially take commercial lead on the plant hire and POS within the core business and measure and value works, client liaison and the collation and reporting of financial information and procurement.
The QS will be responsible for:-
• Implement a clear strategy to meet client objectives
• Carrying out final account measurements
• Compilation and submission of applications for payment schedule of rates.
• Assistance with bid/ tender documentation
• Tracking certification of payments
• Preparation of client progress reports
• Provide commercial reports and input into project decision making
• Assist in the management of procurement processes
• Preparation of project reports including those covering financial status, tender and forecast allowances
• Pricing additional works
• Instigating any dispute resolution, ensuring all claim notices are issued
• Attending weekly contractor and client meetings where applicable
• Pricing and agreeing variations
Skills, Qualification and Experience
• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and delivery techniques required in rail civils projects
• Hold a HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline and ideally be a member of, or working towards, professional membership of RICS or other recognised professional membership.
• Strong organisation and decision making skills
• Have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
• Be able to work on own initiative as well as part of the management team
• Demonstrate a high level of commercial knowledge and understanding
• Experience of liaising with multiple stakeholders
