Job Description
Due to continued growth MacRail are recruiting for Railway Site Access Controllers (SAC) to start work on railway engineering sites in the following areas:
- Leeds
- York
- Newcastle
-Middlesbrough
- London
- Peterborough
MacRail are the market leader in the Site Access industry, operating nationally with lots of work on offer.
Ideally looking for people who are seeking flexible working patterns and are interested in shift work. This is due to the nature of the work as its continuously moving around the country, so no one week will be the same!
Predominantly most of the work will be over the weekend, running from Friday Nights through to Monday morning however midweek may be avaialble
The location of the work can vary each week as the works progress and moves up/down the track, so you will need a driving licence, have access to a car and be prepared to travel up to 60 miles. This means you get to visit some beautiful places along the way, and if you do not mind staying in accommodation, you can further increase your opportunities for additional work. In such cases MacRail will provide the accommodation and can supplement any additional travelling costs by increasing the hourly rate.

- Network Rail offers a substantial bonus for shifts worked over Christmas/New Year. Shifts are paid at Double time and come with bonus per shift worked during the qualifying period (normally around the £400 per shift mark, so can be very lucrative).

Required criteria;
- You must have a full UK driving license and have access to a car.
- Must be available Fri Night through to Monday morning as a minimum.
- IT literate.
- Confident to deal with groups of people, including delivering important Health & Safety information.
- The ability to effectively communicate (both verbal and written).
- Assertive – able to deal with challenging individuals and/or situations, rejecting individuals upon signing in for not meeting PPE requirements.
Beneficial experience but not essential;
- Knowledge of railway track renewals.
- Previous Site Access experience in any industry.
- Comprehensive understanding of the phonetic alphabet
- PTS competency
Job Description
The Site Access Controller acts as a worksite’s administration centre, responsible for controlling access/egress to and from the site and collating reports. They are a single point of contact from the worksite to the outside world. The Site Access Controller will use the equipment provided to update the MacRail systems, entering site reports and personnel registers for the client’s management staff to review.
Principle Duties
- Signing track staff in & out and carrying out 100% sentinel checks.
- Carrying out PPE checks and rejecting anyone from signing in if they are unable to present mandatory items of PPE.
- Providing safety briefings to everyone signing in.
- Fatigue Management of the workforce by ensuring track staff adheres to NWR 12/14hr rules.
- Communicate with Worksite Site Management to record progress updates.
- Keeping key H&S information up to date.
- Issue & record PPE and complete onsite risk assessments of the welfare conditions.
- Logging safety-critical information (Accidents, Incidents & Close Calls)
