Train Service Controller

We are currently seeking a Train Service Controller to join our control team in Peterborough. This is a role which plays a critical part in the safe, real time control of GB Railfreight (and other operators where contracted) train services in order to achieve customer requirements for punctuality, reliability and service quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for the real time management of the GB Railfreight/Network Rail Track Access and haulage contracts, and associated contracts, such as traction and train crew hire. You will be proactive in monitoring all of GB Railfreight train services, in liaison with Network Rail and customer representatives, including investigation into time losses and arranging corrective actions to be taken. The role holder will be in charge of Co-ordination of modified or emergency train plans in liaison with Network Rail and the Duty Control Manager.
Other responsibilities include:
• Communication of plan revisions and other information throughout GB Railfreight, its customers and contractors.
• Supporting the Duty Control Manager & TOPS/Fleet controller with attribution of Level One TRUST Delay Data detailing initial causes of the incident and further monitoring of TRUST delay incidents to ensure reactionary delays are dealt with correctly.
• Liaise with the Duty Control Manager, Engineering Team or Contractor and Network Rail in the event of a train failure or defect to establish the most effective course of action to be taken to minimise disruption, in conjunction with GBRf OSM 120 “Defective On-Train Equipment”. Advise GB Railfreight customers as appropriate, and keep the customer informed of developments.
• To coordinate and liaise with the Duty Control Manager, Engineering and Operational on-call managers.
• Manage and control the booking-on arrangements and real-time resourcing of all Train Managers and Assistant Train Managers, including recording all reasons for plan deviation or extra hour allocation.
• To monitor traction resources in service ensuring that any deviation is fully assessed to ensure most economic use of available traction, and has a minimal effect on maintenance plans.
• Work in conjunction with all areas of the business to delivery GBRf business safely, and the most cost effective way.
• Work with contract managers in delivering for the customer in the case of late running.
• Maintain regular updates for Possession work and mitigate any delays.
The role requires an individual who has effective management of resources, both human and mechanical, in order to achieve high levels of productivity, reliability and performance within the requirements of the GBRf Safety Case and Customer requirements.
Essential Skills
• Strong IT skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Experience in the rail industry
• GCSE in Maths and English, or equivalent
