Samuel Knight Rail are delighted to be recruiting for an Assistant Project Planner who will join the prestigious government programme of "High Speed Rail 2" or HS2 , based in Birmingham, for a major construction contractor.

We are seeking a candidate who can contribute to Cost and Change Management, during a period of growth and rapid transformation in an expansive project. We are seeking ambitious graduates with an interest in planning, change management and cost analysis. We can also consider candidates with 1-3 years industry experience post-graduation.

This is an excellent career development opportunity and a chance to truly shape Britain's infrastructure, helping to deliver this mega project. The duties of the role are summarized below:

Daily accountability:

  • Analyse the outputs of changes proposed, and the subsequent effect on cost models.
  • Support accurate reporting, benchmarking and analysis of HS2 infrastructure cost.
  • Ensure the information you receive is included in the correct change & cost systems.
  • Draw on industry best practice in the development and maintenance of HS2 cost systems
  • Provide support to the development of programme wide models
  • Provide subject matter expertise to understand the impact of proposed changes

The required knowledge and skills of this role are:

  • Understanding cost drivers that define a project and have the ability to convert engineering data into meaningful cost projections
  • Some basic Quantity Surveying (QS) skills , ideally from a construction perspective, would be advantageous
  • An ability to analyse data and present into relevant metrics
