Job Description
The ETCS Freight project includes 8 Railway undertakings (operators) and circa 20 classes of locomotive each of which have variation within the fleets. The role of MBRC in this project centres on a co-ordination and support role ensuring that agreement is reached and operators who normally are competitors, reach agreement on designs across all parties.
This graduate role is to support Project engineers in co-ordination of responses to the following documentation:
• Design drawings
• Human Factors assessments
• Structural Calculations
• Environmental (noise and visibility) Assessments
• Hazard Identification
This work includes a review of responses produced by the operators to check for consistency both within the responses and against responses submitted at previous stages and between classes.
• Removal of duplicates
• Highlighting of conflicting responses from operators
• Highlighting of conflicting responses between classes
• Highlighting where categorisation of a responses does meet established guidelines (acceptance, conditional acceptance, or rejection).
• Ensuring that the comments raised are clear in their intent.
This role will grow over time into the following aspects:
• Discussions with parties where agreement is not present.
• Drafting of technical documentation to guide the project.
• Investigation and cross checking with referenced standards.
• Checking for undocumented design changes between stages (Survey, Concept, Preliminary, Final & As Built
Location
The normal working location will be Edinburgh with the potential for site visits and meeting attendance throughout the UK as the project progresses. The candidate should be willing to travel within the UK including overnight stays during the week where required.
Home working is supported where deemed appropriate by agreement between you and your line manager.
Requirements
The candidate must be qualified at 2:1 or greater in a stem field, preferably mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering.
The successful candidate must have experience with:
• Writing Technical Documentation (reports)
• Grasping technical topics
• Learning both under direction and self-study.
In addition, the following traits are required:
• Excellent work ethic
• Self-motivating
• A drive for continuous professional development
• Lateral and creative thinking
• Capable of working unsupervised
Annual Leave
• 35 days annual leave including bank holidays 2 weeks shutdown for Christmas
