We’re looking for a Construction Safety Specialist for a 9-month contract role with Network Rail, ideally based in Crewe with occasional travel to Chadwell Heath, East London. Alternatively this role could be based Chadwell Heath based with travel to Crewe.
As a Construction Safety Specialist, you will:
- Provide expert advice on aspects of construction safety and facilitate the implementation of strategies and improvement measures by line management and contractors to improve construction safety in the rail environment. Advice on construction plant, lifting operations, manual handling in a construction environment, buried services and electricity at work.
- Lead Network Rail’s development and specification of arrangements to comply with the CDM Regulations.
- Establish effective networks with the safety regulator, Railway Safety & Standards Board, Network Rail delivery managers, Engineering Professional Heads and others to enable regular feedback on current issues and concerns about construction safety in the rail environment.
- Identify and specify remits for research in construction safety in a railway environment in order that Network Rail has the information required to make risk-based decisions about emerging issues.
- Provide a construction safety focus in the development of controls around joint ventures and special purpose vehicles.
- Implement systems and processes for construction safety management arrangements for projects as part of the Standard Project Procedures and lead the specification of construction safety competence and provision of necessary training for IP staff.
- Provide the construction safety focal point for Network Rail’s project contractors. Lead the construction safety input to the Company’s supplier accreditation arrangements.
You will have:
- People/team management experience.
- A relevant NEBOSH qualification.
- Health & Safety experience across a programme of works.
- Experience conducting audits, assurance, accident reporting, and safety investigations (in a rail environment).
- Familiarity with NWR safety management systems.
- An understanding of CDM and Principal Contractor regulations in a rail environment.
- An understanding of NWR competency management system.

Any rates of payment quoted will reflect the gross rate per day for the assignment and will be subject to appropriate taxes and statutory costs. As such the payment to the intermediary and your income resulting from this contract will be different.
