We are currently dealing with a major rail engineering contractor who are looking at recruiting a Head of Environmental and Sustainability to be based within the Derby office.  As the Head of Environmental and Sustainability you will report into the head of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental being responsible UK compliance with Environmental and Sustainability policies and strategies across the function and audit compliance with legal and statutory regulations. Within the job, typical duties can include, but not limited to:

• Develop and implement the IMS requirements for environmental/sustainability management  
• Work with designers to implement sustainable design, including, carbon, water, and materials
• Liaise with the Network Rail environment managers, external consent granting bodies and other stakeholders
• Be part of the HSQE team and assist the team to maintain full engagement in meeting business objectives
• Understanding corporate and client requirements for environmental/sustainability management
• Assisting the project teams in the production of EMPs and associated documentation
• Reviewing environmental management requirements in WPPs
• Providing support and advice to project teams regarding consent applications, such that requirements are identified, and applications are made on time to meet project timescales
• Interface with / manage specialist consultants, e.g. ecology, and acoustics
• Co-ordinate with other contractors regarding cumulative impacts on adjacent worksites
• Undertake site inspections
• Monitor, analyse, and report on the following, and develop Excel-based data-bases and reports accordingly: targets, objectives, KPIs/EPIs, inspection findings, audit findings, close-calls, incidents, complaints

Job Requirements

• Experience of supporting construction projects to identify and manage environmental risks and opportunities
• Good understanding of the UK legislative framework and requirements.
• Experience in management of resources/ waste, nuisance, ecology and sustainable design
• Experience in environmental management on major programmes of work in the construction industry
• Member of PIEMA (Practitioner Membership)
• Driving License
