The Central Rail Systems Alliance is formed by partners Network Rail, Balfour Beatty, Atkins and TSO. The CRSA is responsible for the delivery of multi-disciplinary railway upgrade projects on the North West & Central and Eastern regions of Network Rail’s recently devolved routes. The programme of works delivered by the teams is valued at £2bn and manages the development, design and delivery of Switches and Crossings and Plain Line renewals as its core business but is also responsible for the delivery of major enhancement projects.
As part of an extensive Rail infrastructure development programme, we are looking to recruit a Senior Safety Project Engineer to join our Central Rail Systems Alliance team.
As a Senior Safety Project Engineer, you will be at the heart of our major projects team, supporting a portfolio of Capital Delivery Programmes and ensure compliance with the Common Safety Method (CSM) for risk assessment and evaluation. This will also include and Interoperability (NTSN’s) where applicable. With the opportunity to shape the infrastructure of the future; you will ensure quality assurance processes are developed and managed, with particular focus on system safety, including collaborating with design engineers to record safety mitigations and define safety requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
- Implement systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects.
- Review relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments.
- Apply engineering controls and procedures a variety of projects.
- Provision of advice to the project teams regarding the application of the CSM regulation.
- Preparation of project-specific Engineering Safety Management documentation in accordance with the CSM regulation and relevant standards.
- Lead project-specific Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Risk Assessment Workshops.
- Act as the key interface between the project, clients, stakeholders, and any sub-contractors providing CSM support services.
- Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects.
About You:
- Experience in engineering safety management and compliance with UK law engineering safety.
- Ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative assessment of risk as part of railway safety engineering or similar experience.
- Knowledge of the CSM-RA regulations or similar application of engineering safety management.
- Ability to act on own initiative and operate in a proactive way.
- Ability to work collaboratively and integrate into multi-disciplinary teams or work independently.
- Keen to shape the future of CSM application on major infrastructure schemes.
