Manual Handling Improvement Project CP6
Person Specification for Incident Data Collection and Analysis
Background
As part of the Manual Handling Improvement CP6 project, Workstream 1 focuses on analysing data on injuries and reported musculoskeletal strains/injuries to identify key priorities for risk reduction.
An additional resource is required to assist in data collection and analysis.
Tasks
The resource will be required to:
a) Review 5 years of manual handling incident records (in a spreadsheet), identifying and logging the manual handling operation/equipment implicated in each incident (by analysis of the narrative data in the record) and the staff group involved
b) Review 5 years of incident records on other workplace accidents to identify and add to the log any that could have had a manual handling operation as their underlying cause
c) Where clarification is required on the cause of an incident, to obtain this from relevant Route staff
d) A classification for causes will have been developed, but this may need refinement and will need to be applied to each of the records
e) Manage the logs of manual handling incidents using a spreadsheet tool to create a database of manual handling incident data, making sure that each record is clear, complete and traceable back to the originating source
f) Perform initial statistical analyses of the manual handling data collected to identify the most frequent manual handling operations/equipment, staff types etc. involved.
Currently out of scope, but contract may be extended to include:
g) Set up focus groups for frontline staff across the business that covers all discipline groups. This will require negotiation to gain agreement to release staff and to provide rooms for meetings to take place.
h) Attend focus groups, capturing and writing up results
i) Provide frequent updates on progress and be available for planned project team meetings in The Quadrant, Milton Keynes
Key Knowledge and Capabilities
To achieve the above tasks, the resource will be required to have the following knowledge and capabilities:
1) Broad knowledge of Network Rail maintenance tasks and related equipment (To be able to identify the manual handling tasks within the incident records)
2) Capable of following a structured approach to tasks involving data analysis and classification
3) Experience of handling and manipulating both textual and numerical information within MS Excel spreadsheets, including ability to sum and report on numbers of entries as required
4) Good communications and influencing skills to persuade Route staff to provide the required
contributions (i.e. clarification/verification of data, providing staff access for focus groups)
Post Details
This is a five-month contract with possibility of extension.
Location in Milton Keynes is preferred. Will be home based for the duration of the contract.
