Human Factors Engineer
Location: Chippenham

Day Rate: Dependent on experience
My client is in the market for a committed Human Factors Engineer to join a team of hardworking Ergonomics/ Human Factors personnel. The ideal Human Factors Engineer will come on board working closely with project managers and engineering teams to promote a good understanding of human factors capabilities on the project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the smooth and effective integration of human factors throughout design, development and implementation.
- Produce a human factors integration plans to ensure HF methods and activities are suitably integrated with other project activities and conducted at the appropriate time, using suitable methods.
- Apply human factors methods and design principles, and the company process to ensure:
- All human factors requirements for the system and its components are identified,
- User requirements and capabilities are considered throughout design, development and implementation,
- Compliance with relevant human factors standards and good practice,
- The delivered product or system is fit-for-purpose, meets user needs, promotes effective, efficient and safe working, and is acceptable to users.
- Build good working relationships with equivalent human factors staff in external parties.
- Attend and where required chair customer and user group sessions, to obtain feedback on the proposed user interfaces.
- Participate in the formal reviews of project or product documentation, as required by the company process.
- Participate in project meetings as required (e.g. milestone reviews, change control board, progress reviews, etc).
- Deliver high quality deliverables as required to record human factors activities and provide evidence of compliance with human factors processes and client standards.
- To assist in the development of a Company database of human factors related data for use by future projects.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in Psychology, Ergonomics, Human Factors or a related discipline.
- Experience of working in large, multi-discipline teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to produce high quality documentation to tight timescales.
- A willingness to work towards Registered Membership of the CIEHF.
- Experience in employing human factors techniques in design. For example Human Factors Integration, workload analysis, HMI design, user and stakeholder engagement, workstation layout, control room design, and maintainability.
- Experience working in a safety critical industry, preferably Rail. (Desirable)
- Experience of supervising other engineers. (Desirable)
