Lead Civil Design Engineer - Water & Rail

Location: Manchester & West Midlands

Rate - £300-400 or Salary £45-55k

Our client is looking for a Lead Design Engineer to join their Multi Utilities Team.

The Multi Utilities Team support both internal and external clients. And offer expertise in the management of onsite utilities that have the potential to clash with major projects. The current pipeline of work includes several schemes for HS2, Anglian Water AMP7 and some major diversions for a 250m upgrade to Junction 10 of the M25.

As the Lead Civil Engineer in the Water/Civils Industry the role will offer you opportunities work, coach and pass on knowledge to team members who share a passion for working together with clients to deliver technical excellence. You will help the business grow its team of experts and deliver projects for HS2 and major internal clients.

What you'll be doing

As a Lead Design Engineer, your main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Autonomous submission of yours and the teams deliverables on time and to budget
  • Production and checking of all relevant calculations
  • Maintain highly detailed project diaries to support the PM with timely Early
  • Warnings and Compensation Events
  • Commit to working within a BIM Level 2 Environment
  • Ensure team is working within the Common Data Environment
  • Reviewing and amending design drawings
  • Production of Specifications
  • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
  • Implement project requirements to fully meet the client specification and in accordance

with relevant standards;

  • Derive effective efficient solutions to resolve different levels of complex issues regarding the

management of on site utilities.

  • Drive effective health and safety practices within your team;
  • Liaise with the Client and partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable

for buildability and maintainability

  • Lead on the delivery of scheme designs, as well as providing support to the
  • Design Delivery Manager within the design team
  • Prepare your own and manage team members discipline designs, drawings and schedules to

the required quality;

  • Contribute to the production of Project Management Plans; Support the preparation of

scheme evaluations, design statements, tenders and any other required deliverables;

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning,

monitoring and reporting of project resources

  • Have a good understanding of all relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety

Legislation and current relevant design methods;

  • Awareness of BIM standards such as BS1192, PAS1192 and ISO19650;
  • Promoting BIM and digital delivery best practice;
  • Engage in client, contractor and third-party liaison, including review of third party design

proposals;

  • Support learning and development of graduates and other team members.

About You

The following qualities and experience are essential:

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering
  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Time served relevant experience
  • 6+ years post grad where applicable
  • Experience in the design of water and/or wastewater schemes
  • Experience in civil engineering; deep excavations, earthworks, temporary works,

structures

  • People management and leadership
  • Competent in design from first principles
  • Strong communication skills, adaptable to stakeholders.
  • Willing to take the lead proactively
  • Extensive use of Electronic Document Systems (BC, Projectwise etc.)
  • Strong awareness of the BIM digital environment (MIDP, TIDP etc.)
  • Competence in BIM model viewing/reviewing essential
