An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Systems Engineer based in Birmingham. As a Lead Systems Engineer you will support the application development, project introduction and lead the project delivery of signalling interlocking solutions, software and processes for UK projects. This portfolio currently includes SSI, SMARTLOCK (2oo3 platform), Smart Gateway, SmartIO, VHLC, ELIX and MooN platform along with their associated application processes. The role includes the capturing of system requirements, production of architectures and descriptions at system and subsystem level. Lead the introduction of existing and new system solutions at project level and provide application support to the development team. Role overview

Lead the capture of system project requirements at system level and subsystem level within system description documents and formal architectures. Facilitate design reviews of the proposed architecture and system descriptions against system requirements to support the formal validation of the proposed solution.

Participate in the development and / or improvement of tools and processes within the business including requirements capture, planning, specifications, design, implementation, testing and project roll out. Assist in ensuring that tools and processes remain fit for purpose and enable continuous improvement of them by leading regular reviews and proactively suggesting and implementing improvements.

Undertake System set up and Factory Testing activities to confirm target system complies with system requirements and system architecture. Facilitate the handover of systems to test for formal testing activities and support fault finding and close out of test logs as required.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure delivery of standardised objectives and optimum systems solutions on allocated projects.
• Delivery of project solutions ensuring focus on reliability, maintainability and safety principles.
• Ensure conformity of projects to systems standards, agreed system architecture, client standards and company procedures.
• Participate in the development of new systems solutions.
• Support to safety assurance on the application CSM on allocated projects / products including the development of Generic and Specific Application Safety Cases.
• Work with the Systems Engineering Manager to establish matters of best practice.
• Act as system architect or Bid Technical Manager to support project tenders.
• Participate in systems integration, project deliverables, associated sub-systems and validation of technical documentation in order to verify product and project compliance.
• Technical team leadership for Systems Engineers.
• Support the project in the field by providing second line product support to customers.
• Attendance at business and technical briefings.

Essential Requirements

• HNC or HND level education in an engineering related subject, preferably control systems / electrical engineering / systems engineering or equivalent
• Good knowledge of client and systems standards and legislation.
• Knowledge of the UK railway safety approval processes.
• Good knowledge of systems engineering principles and good understanding of relevant systems and software tools and the aptitude to develop skills further
• Experience working in a railway system engineering environment

Desirable Requirements

• MSc or BSc level education in an engineering related subject, preferably control systems / electrical engineering / systems engineering or equivalent
• Knowledgeable of Commercial and financial awareness
• PTS
• Corporate Member of an engineering institute
• IRSE Systems or Engineering Managers licence
