The Lead Engineer - HV Non Traction Power in Central London, United Kingdom
I'm looking for a Lead High Voltage (HV) Engineer who can take charge of the design, integration, and implementation of all high voltage (HV) power supply systems for a major new railway project.
You will focus on the HV distribution network, including 33kV and 11kV primary and secondary substations, and provide technical and professional leadership to the client organization. This role encompasses the full range of non-traction HV power systems across the railway infrastructure, such as station power supplies (11kV/400V), tunnel ventilation systems, signalling power requirements, points heating systems, and auxiliary power for shafts and other assets.
You'll ensure that the entire HV network being constructed is fully compliant with standards, meets operational performance requirements, and is fit for purpose. Youll understand the varying demands of the different railway systems, such as Signalling, Track, Scada etc
You will engage with detailed electrical designs already completed, working closely with contractors, tenders, and design teams to oversee the construction and commissioning phases. This is a macro-level, system-wide role, overseeing the integration of the HV network while being able to dive into technical details at a micro level when specific engineering or substation issues arise.
Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in HV distribution (33kV and 11kV networks), power systems integration, and system energisation, will be highly beneficial, as much of the project is evolving as different disciplines transition into detailed design. You will be expected to challenge specifications, clarify technical requirements, and collaborate with both designers and contractors as the project progresses towards the build, testing, and energisation phases.
The client works, across multi disciplines, with subject mater experts drawn from all the interconnecting disciplines, you will therefore work with equivalents, in Traction Power, Low Voltage, Earth & Bonding, HV Scada, plus leaders in the railway systems.
The ability to review designs, and the ability to work with the design and delivery suppliers will be very important.
Experience working with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and managing interfaces between HV systems (33kV/11kV) and other railway infrastructure components is essential.
